As to why I picked C:
We don't need to become a swordsman. That suggests a command of authority... someone over us. We'll do everything our own way.

I agree with Giga. We don't need a sword to make us powerful. And B goes against what we just decided with our smelly, shark-faced friend.
Voting C
Kusanagi, you did a GREAT job with this last update. I genuinely felt guilty after what we did to our friend. And the emotions in the air are so unbelievably clear.

Interesting choice again... C Sorry for the late update... My dad messed up the net :/
------------------
1 year later...
Survival is an odd concept here. You secret to truly getting by, is subtly, finesse. It’s not about having the most food; it’s about how much you can have before people start to notice. Not being the best, but being good enough you’re above no one who matters. You’ve become truly unnoticeable. A true ninja. You’ve focused on your training and your wellbeing, and it shows. You’ve honed your body and your mind, and you’re abilities are coated in secrecy and hearsay. You fade in and out of hallways, weaving through crowds and classes like a phantom. Hell, it took your roommate six months before he even realised you were there. You’ve gained no reputation, but the teachers that know you, respect you. You’ve got instinct and talent, and to them, that’s all that matters. The other children are either totally unaware of you or too intimated of your. You don’t care. Your stance and eyes demonstrate your coldness and the more you force yourself not to care the easier it gets.
--------------------
“Matsuba” A young female chunin, with jet black hair swept into a ponytail, enters your room. “It’s time for your... ‘Test of Resolve’” She says, those last few words maliciously sounded out as she grinned. You line your face with your usual apathy and follow her down the same murky hallway you’ve walked down a thousand times. You’ve even started to notice when the moss would grow and where there were new cracks in the limestone.
You round a corner until a large steel grate looms in front of you. It’s rustic and rickety and almost otherworld, like a gate to some strange hellish reality. The rustic red and worn gray struck out from the macabre mouldy, brown walls surrounding it. It slowly swings open, screeching at an ungodly pitch as it does. You throw your hands to your ears and try to block out the inhuman noise.
“Matsuba, if you can’t handle a creaky door, how are you gonna handle what we’ve got for store in here?” A familiar, smug voice says over the scraping. Toshiru casually leans in the door frame, his face in that infuriating smirk, but with one small oddity about it you can’t quite see. Something about his teeth...
“Get inside kid, we’ve got a special lesson planned for today” He waves you over before disappearing into the black. You find yourself shaking in fear, in excitement, in anxiety. You calm yourself like you have a million times before. You are independent. You are strong. You clench your fists and take a deep breath than follow him
---------------
The room is almost pitch black. You can barely recognise the lean body of Toshiru, and you can vaguely see what you think are the walls. The sound of dripping water echoes around you, it’s maddening. But the oddest thing about this place, is that horrific smell. You were gagging as soon as you entered. It’s an odd smell, kind of... unique. You’d be hard pressed to find something as disgusting as it anywhere else, but you know you’ve smelt it somewhere before. You mentally block it out, as Toshiru speaks.
“Lights” He broke the dank silence and soon the room erupted in a burning light. You see a small heap of oddly burnt compost-like material, which seemed to be the source of that terrifying smell. It looked as if it had been suddenly doused in flame, it was a black husk, covered in strange hair... oddly familiar hair. You begin to shake, as the smell returns, the memories return.
Laying before you burnt, scarred, dead, unrecognisable. Shoshibi. You’re eyes nearly roll back into their head, your knees shaking like the ground during an earthquake. You fight back the urge to vomit and grip your legs til you feel blood on your finger nails, while he lies there. Cold. His face is cooked and has a mummified-look. The emerald eyes are now charredblack and sunken into his skull. There are no words and you feel a lump swelling within your throat. But, like a thousand times before, you calm your breathing and stare Toshiru. He notices the fear in your eyes and his smile widens.
“This body belongs to a student with poor willpower. Poor bastard couldn’t even throw a single damn punch at the target. He wasn’t ready to be a ninja, so we treated him the way the weak deserve to be treated” He struck down on Shoshibi’s skull, sending chunks of burnt flesh and ashy hair across the room. You stare catatonically in the burning light, as your best friends body is desecrated beyond what you thought possible. You take another deep breathe, but you can still feel the warm liquid covering your fingers.
“Your mission is simple. The target is a missing-nin. He’s been drugged and had his chakra-moulding capabilities all but removed. He’ll be released into this room in about 3 minutes. You’ve gotta kill him before he kills you, or worse yet, I do” He whispers with barely concealed malice. You slowly give a nod to show you understand. “Have fun, kid” He disappears in a cloud of smoke, leaving you in the room alone. For now.
You slowly run your fingers over the smooth of the kunai, your legs poised to pounce on any unsuspected movement. You retreat within your battle instincts and block out the small pile of dead memories that lay just 5 metres from you.
----------------
Screeeeeeeeeeeeech A metallic scream tears through the room and you spin on your heels almost immediately. A vent hidden in the wall had flung open and out jumped a dirty, skinny, bald man, draped in what appeared to be a burlap sack. His eyes wear sunken and bloodshot, and his movements were more akin to a wild animals then a man and he moved slower than what a missing-nin should. He was simply not there.
He was covering ground quick and fighting off a frenzied attacker like this would be difficult. You can’t let weakness show infront of Toshiru. You have to act now.
Disable him with:
A. Some close-quarters taijutsu
B. Use shadow clones
C. A simple genjutsu
D. A seal that would slow him down somehow Kill him with:
1. A fire jutsu
2. A lightning jutsu
3. A water jutsu
4. An earth jutsu
5. A wind jutsu
----------
It’s fairly obvious to tell what those choices represent. Sorry for the massively late update guys. It won’t happen again. Next upate will be the real start of the story

Never had a MC that specializes in seals yet. For the element, I would take anything except raiton. Fuuton was taken here because seals are close range.

That's barrier type jutsu, reality warping. Not quite the same thing. That one is effective at long/medium range, this one probably close range. I'm thinking of five element seals or shiko's chakra/movement seals or death reaper seal or curse seal. I can't even name many more examples because they're so rare.

It says "a seal that will slow him down somehow", just because the other seals were called barriers doesn't mean they're not the exact same thing.
Say, you're right and it's different from that, none of the seals you named can be used during battle (if fighting alone) and we're a loner in this.

Seal using Fuuton expert it is ------------ “Sealing Art: Future Strike Jutsu!” You roll up your blue fatigues to reveal the simple drawings tattooed across your arm. You feel the numbing feeling of static shiver along your palm as you dash towards your target. He raises his arm as if to punch you, but you’re already within striking distance. You slap your palm against his skin and feed the chakra into his body. The seal soon begins to appear on his skin, but he lunges down at you. You tries to rush you again and you release the seal implanted in his knee. You see his leg bend inhumanly and a sickening crack resonates through the chamber as the chakra built in the seal is unleashed in one massive hit. His face contorts in pain, but he almost seems to forget about it in mere moments, struggling pathetically to crawl back up on his one good leg. You jump back and begin to prepare your finishing justu. “Wind Style: Wind Boomerang!” You breathe in deep and launch a boomerang shaped blade of wind squarely at his neck. It spins violently, slicing his neck nearly all the way through before dissipating. His body jerks erratically, than collapses as body floods from his piercing neck, a crimson pool circling your first kill. The first life you’ve taken. The first of many who you will have to take in the name of the Bloody Mist. You stand there, unsure of what to feel, all that stirs in your chest is the constant pumping of blood and the nothingness that’s grown this past year. You stand there immersed in the sight, the smell, the sound, when someone taps you on the shoulder. “Damn kid, nice kill! Nearly took his ****ing head off!” Toshiru says nearly hunched over in laughter. Toshiru stands at your side with an almost warm, accepting smile on his face. His eyes bright with happiness and macabre delight. You stare back at him silent and cold, your eyes a sea of grey. He sighs and starts mutters to himself. “Why do the best have to be so dull?” He seems to gorget you can hear him, before turning to you with the usual suppressed anger, rolling his eyes at you. “Let’s just head back to your room” You nod and follow him as he leaves the room. You give one last long look to your fresh kill, and to your best friend and what’s left of him ------------ 1 year later…This is the day. The final exam you must take. The students have been carolled into the training room, which has been completely cleared to allow maximum room for the duels. You’ve been forced to face the children you’ve spent the last two years diligently avoiding and now they all surround you, incessantly chatting, pleading, praying, verbalising every moronic thought that crosses their mind. You almost want to kill them. A slow creak silences the room. You can barely recognise his face, but his aura fills the room, his stance is unmistakeable. Se is back. He slowly circles the horde of frightened children, eyeing down everyone in the room, student and teacher alike. you think Toshiru even shifted under his gaze. “This is it. No long speechs. I’ve no need to intimidate you or shock you. You’ve spent two years training and it’s time to see if I made the right choice in sparing you all two years ago. I’m assuming you all know the rules but I’ll repeat them anyway. Two students will be chosen to fight in this room. You must kill your opponent. Failure to do so will result in the death of you both. The others will stay in this room and watch, but they mustn’t interfere, unless you don’t want to live to see your fight” “The more skilled your opponent and the better you do the greater your reward, and trust me, you want that reward” Despite yourself you feel fear growing, but somehow remain calm. The children around you have broken out into cold sweats and try their best to maintain the composure you’ve mastered these past two years. Se’s eyes meet yours, and his expression becomes a mix of curiousity and amazement. “Something’s changed in you. I recognise your face, but your eyes seem so… empty” He gracefully moves through the crowd, as they sliver from his feet. You feel him staring at you, and you shuffle back, much to your anger. You want to just stand up and sprint away. “It’s cold as steel, you’re face has no energy, no emotion, no life” His jaw nearly drops, but he regains his stern look and walks toward the other teachers. “I can think of no better way than to let you fight first” You feel your stomach sink into you, but you do not waver, you do not dare show fear “But to be fair, you may chose your opponent, but be quick” You’re shocked beyond words, but can’t back down now. You need to find someone who will make you look good. Someone who will show your prowess if you kill them. Or maybe you want to disguise your abilities and forgo the reward for now? You scan your crowd and find your target. Who is it? A. The girl with auburn hair
B. A shark-toothed boy with shoulder-length spiky brown hair. He wears a sword and surrrounds himself the sons of noblemen
C. Mitoi, a boy who lived in your street during your youth. An easy target, he’ll probably crack at the sound of his name.-------- Sorry if these last few updates have been shit. I've been very busy lately and my dad fucking up the modem isn't helping :/ The next update will include a justu listing, stats as well as an explanation of the battle system

It seems that we can get the reward later. If that's the case, we may need to just disguise our abilities, because that would be in-character for us.
A - High risk, High reward B - Medium risk, Meh reward C - Low risk, No reward (but kusanagi seemed to hint that we could get it later)
CHANGING: B vote - It's in character. But I'd be happy with A, too, if the majority chose that.

A. Best reward. Just because it's worded like that doesn't mean the reward is for sure available later. The fights risk level depends on the users. Users make bad decisions, characters die. They don't, he lives so really the difficulty level is in the users hands.

Which is why the option with the best reward is the best option. It will also impress Se who said that he might help out if he was impressed. I'm sure his help in this kind of place is more valuable than the reward.

but, aren't these battles to the death? We don't wanna pick the best opponent, because if we win, the village loses a strong shinobi, in Mei's case, a mizukage candidate even.

Don’t worry... I was planning on everyone picking a Swordsman, but I’ve got other cool shit planned
--------------
“I pick... him” You point straight at the shark-like boy, every child in the room spinning to look. He sits there lazily, playing with his razor-like teeth, before meeting your sharp eyes and accusatory finger pointed directly at him. His gaze transforms from his prior apathy and a scowl of pure malice crosses his face. He signals his companions to separate for him before standing furious and intimidating, sword rigged and deadly on his back. He’s grown there past few years, becoming skilled with his sword and water jutsu. His hair is brown, short and scruffy pointing out in every direction. His face is pointed and predator, resembling a sharks snout. He wears the typical academy fatigues, grey and blue with the sleeves crudely torn off. He briefly stares at you than rolls his eyes dismissively and sighing. “Se can we not do this? I wanted to fight someone a little more... not a faggot” You chuckle to yourself. He’s strong, but he’s arrogant. You can use this.
Se booms over the crowd “Zaraki, you heard him. Get ready!” Zaraki sulks like a child who missed out on his favourite toy and hesitantly strolls over to the other side of the room. Toshiru taps you on the shoulder and motions you to the opposite wall.
You both stand facing each other, finger reaching for your weapon pouches and your brows fogging from sweat. Zaraki looks back into your eyes, anger making him fidgety and you can see the contours of his muscles tense “On my mark...” Se announces.
“Ready.” You wait for Zaraki to make his move...
“Set.” He unflicks his kunai pouch and you lean to your side...
“GO!”
Zaraki fires the kunai like a bullet, but you effortlessly dodge. The knife embeds itself deep into the wall. You slide across the ground and face a berserk rush from a now armed Zaraki, barely 20 metres away, holding his katana to his side, preparing for a horizontal slice.
What do you do?
E) Free choice
------
Just curious to see how you guys fight... have fun
Jutsus:
Wind Style: Eye of the Storm
Description: Creates a cutting tornado around the user. The area of effect gradually expands depending how much chakra is used. The user must stay directly in the centre, so they are vulnerable to attacks from above.
Cost: 75
Wind Style: Wind Kunai
Description: By breathing wind chakra onto a kunai and moulding it further, a scimitar-like blade is created. Being infused with wind chakra, this blade while not very stable, has incredible cutting and penetrating properties. It can only match a normal weapons and it can only last two ‘turns’.
Cost: 50
Wind Style: Wind Boomerang:
Description: A controllable 30cm blade of wind shaped like a boomerang fired from the mouth. You can bend and control 3 blades at once or fire 5 blades. This number will increase as the story continues.
Cost: 50
Shadow Clones:
Description: Perfectly identical copies of the user, unable to handle a high degree of damage.
Cost: 20
Shunshin:
Description: A quick, chakra aided burst of speed seen as a flicker.
Cost: 10
Sealing Arts: Future Strike:
Description: By pooling chakra is a palm-sized area of the enemy’s skin, you effectively create a ‘charka landmine’. The chakra is sealed into the opponent’s skin, and once it is released, it strikes the enemy with all the subdued force contained. The more chakra pumped into it, the more powerful, but the longer you must maintain physical contact with the person.
Cost: 0-50
Sealing Arts: Gravity Accelerator:
Description: Using your fingertips and blood, you create a seal on a weapon that increases it’s weight, making it unusable.
Cost: 30
Sealing Arts: Elemental Absorption:
Description: A very powerful seal, spanning the entire body. It allows you to draw techniques within yourself slowly neutralizing them using your body’s chakra. There is a limit to the power of the technique you can absorb and the only way to disable a technique is letting it disable itself naturally inside your body.
Cost: 75
Item Summoning:
Description: Recall and return items you have tagged for use. Currently able to summon additional kunai and shuriken.
Cost: None
Chakra: 200
I think all these techniques are explained fairly well. If you guys have any questions or comments on the techniques just ask.

I would grab two kunai, cut myself for blood for using gravity accelerator with one and use Wind Kunai on the other. Engage in CQC with our wind scimitar and make his sword heavier as soon as you are at a standstill. Rinse and repeat untill he drops the sword and we kill him or untill we die.
If our gravity accelerator is too weak for a fight with low chakra, do future strike instead (aim at his hands first => no hands, no wielding weapons)
