"No, I'd like to check out that truck, could you get me some clearance Tara?"
"Sure, Lt." She chimes
"Great", you reply, waiting for the digital confirmation of approval of a search. With a few screens popping up onto the panel in the dashboard, you watch as [Commerce-based Examination] pops up in bold black letters. You pull your head out of the car, looking around for Deneb who seems to be inspecting the vehicle already, just walking around its parameter.
"Deneb! Open that truck up and check it out!" You shout, giving your best bossy voice.
"Gotcha chief!" He seems to disappear behind the truck, giving an O (kay) gesture with his fingers. As you begin to make your way over, the alarm of your cruisers disrupts your stride. Quickly turning towards your car you notice the dashboard's panel light up, Tara on screen in a remote conference.
"Lt.! That truck! It's been reported as a stolen asset!"
"What? How do you kn-"
"Deneb's camera! Don't let him-" The roar of a heavy blaster rings through the empty street. No way...
In a rushed shock you turn to the truck again, seeing Deneb on the ground several meters away, his armored chest plate smoking. "Deneb!"With a thud and a thud you freeze up, watching an armored suit walk out of the truck.
"What is..."
Slowly it turns to you, its six eyes glowing red. "What..." That was a military issue armored personnel suit...Snapping to your senses you dodge as a compartment of its shoulder rises up, revealing a small set of missiles, all 8 of them swarming at you. In the updraft of the blast you get swept to the ground, landing just to the side. Only meters away from the mechanical monster.
Getting to your feet you finger the grip of your pistol and feel your vibro knife's holster. The car was probably nothing but trash now...you didn't look back but you could hear the crackling flicker of a large flame.
A. Fight with tactics (come up with a battle plan) B. Shoot at it blindly C. Run away alone D. Grab Deneb and try to run away E. Hide and seek until that back up car comes

A - I don't have a single idea how to fight this thing. But I'm thinking close-range combat might be best if it's a robot-like thing. B - Dumb. C - Bad. D - I'm thinking this could be best, but if we try to grab him and run away, we both will be targets. E - Not the best idea. This thing probably has ridiculous specs on it.
A vote - Focus on close range combat with the vibro knife and try to lead it away from Deneb while using Forte's strategy; if the Lt. has a radio, try and call for backup.

A.
Go in close with the knife to disable something on it. Preferably the legs and at least one of the arms.

Back up? No time...and without the car's transmitter you wouldn't be able to contact HQ one just the mental relay alone. No choice!, you think as it readies its heavy blaster. Dodging its badly aimed shots, you charge in, quickly making contact with its metal shell, using it as a handle to literally throw yourself over to its backside, slashing at the knee as you draw the knife from its sheath hanging over your shoulder. Little effect...the entire knee was carefully guarded by strips of heavy metal, moving interchangeably like teeth to maintain flexibility, but prevent small attacks. Well...
Turning tail you quickly spin on your heels, catching the sight of your burning cruiser and running past it, away from the armored enemy. More importantly...away from Deneb. Just as expected it followed you, must be an amateur being drawn away so easily!
In an intense sprint you make your way down the street, somehow managing to steer clear of the stray blaster rounds making tiny craters in the paved streets. The road was already crude enough...but now...
Suddenly, you hear the hum, rather, the roar of an engine...of a turbine! You glance back to see the mech begin to take to the skies, floating off the ground. No, it wasn't taking flight, it was just hover- Catching you off guard it darts at you, randomly holding its arm out, and without warning a beam emanates from it.
In a hurry you roll towards the charging mech, just evading its passing attack.
Coming to a stop, facing the mech, you see that its new weapon created a clean cut into a nearby building, the wall glowing red hot from the intense heat. A beam weapon...Kinda...scary...you feel your muscles tense up, your breathing becoming heavy and rapid, your strong heart felt like it was going to explode!
Even so! You must fight!
Drawing the knife you activate its secondary function, high frequency vibrations. Leading with the pistol you shoot at the mech with little effect, a few bullets land in the nestles of the joints but most bounce off. 5-4-3-2-1-click-click. Empty, and here it comes. One quick reload and -
A.Go in with the knife again and try a prolonged stab B. Continue dodging and playing cat/mouse until that one squad car arrives C.Try to get close and use the pistol on exposed spots (neck, axillary, between the knee plates, elbow) D. Keep dodging and running further and further away (towards populated zones) E. Try going into the apartment complexes and hide F. Custom battle plan (you have a knife and a pistol) G. Free choice

Charge!
Pushing off of your hind leg, you burst into a sprint, playing chicken with the mech.
Stopping just short you manage to fake out the mech, stopping just short of the swing of its beam sword, almost. In the fit of pain you grind your teeth and wince, your eye twitching just a bit as you hear the frying of the smoldering flesh.
Pulling your pistol up you take aim and shoot at the neck joint, which seemed to be made of bundles of glowing mesh and wires, almost shaped like ligaments. N-no! Of five shots, only 1 hits, embedding itself in the mess. The rest miss even at the close range, glancing off the nearby plated armor as the mech hovers about. It was usel-
In what seems like an inhuman turn the mechanical suit swipes its arm across to the other side…
With the beam sword still…
Still holding the pistol up you look down, watching your knife wielding hand fall to the ground. “W-wha-“
GAME OVER From now on I’m going to make battles harder and choices more descriptive. Only a few will work of ones that aren’t custom or free choice or anything of that regard.

I don't want to use a save. Let's just go back.
A.Go in with the knife again and try a prolonged stab
A pro-LONGED attack seems to be a bad idea. This thing is fast and the knife didn't work the first time, but then again, we didn't have the vibration function enabled.
B. Continue dodging and playing cat/mouse until that one squad car arrives
The squad car will never come. It was a trap. C.Try to get close and use the pistol on exposed spots (neck, axillary, between the knee plates, elbow)
I tried this already and it got the Lt. killed.
D. Keep dodging and running further and further away (towards populated zones)
This is probably the best idea. If we get to more populated zones, more people will be able to help, hopefully. There are two issues: one, we'll be going farther away from Deneb and we don't know what kind of injuries that he's sustained, which means he might need us to be there to help him; two, we'll be endangering more people in more populated zones.
E. Try going into the apartment complexes and hide
Bad idea in my opinion. This mech probably has technology that is very advanced (like infrared), which could sense our presence.
F. Custom battle plan (you have a knife and a pistol)
Our weapons don't seem to be doing much. But I'm open to ideas.
G. Free choice
I'm open to ideas.

It would be pointless to stick around and die right? Draw it into a more crowded area and try to distract it while the back up came. But then the citizens would be in danger!
"No choice!" Pushing off with your hind leg you charge out of your position in the opposite direction, running away from the armored suit while shooting back at it. No movement so far, better make the best of it right? Running harder you try to clear as much distance as you possibly can before it begins moving again, sprinting with all your might.
Again you hear the hum, this time very distant, thank goodness. You make it to the end of the street, turning to the left back into the city, dodging a blaster bolt just in time as the wall next to you explodes into pieces. "Damn!" You exclaim, making your away from the previous battlezone, just a little closer into the city and, wait a bus? Oh go-
You try to hail it, running in front of it on the road and waving your arms madly, shaking your head vigorously. It was a public transit bus, running rounds, around lunch time too probably jam packed with commuters. "Don't go that way!"
Too late, you watch the bus come to a screeching halt, turning sideways to compound its deceleration, practically blocking off the entire street. Leaping back and out of the way you hear whistling. No way...turning just momentarily you once again run and jump for your life, getting out of the way of the small missiles flying at you...no...the bus.
Mid air the blast of the explosion sweeps you away. As super heated pieces of shrapnel pierce your back and arm, you land on the paved ground with a heavy thud after what seems like a hours of basking in fire.
"Uh-ugh..." You raise yourself with one arm, the other badly injured. D-D-don't look back... those people... d-don't look ba- A partially scorched hand falls onto the ground in front of you, holding a stuffed lion doll. Oh...Your lungs expand rapidly, then deflate, in and out rapidly, you begin hyperventilating just a bit.
The powered suit was just hovering in front of you, waiting...its beam saber igniting, the air superheating into a blue flame as the plasma flares. With the fire behind you, your enlarged shadow cast upon the mech, masking it in an eerie darkness.
A. Anger, fight, go for that prolonged stab B. Fear, run for the buildings, go in, and bust through the walls to escape C. Run away through the fire of the bus and try to break for the city again D. Custom battle plan E. Free choice

The anger flaring up you grit your teeth, determined to take out the powered armor, readying your knife.
You can see the blue light spark in the large barrel of its blaster rifle; using it as a signal you dash straight for it, trying to clear the distance as fast as possible.
Woosh! Several bolts of energy pass by your head, tinging the back of your hair as you try to avoid the volley, stilling charging. As your hair bun becomes undone letting loose your light red hair, you leap into the air, holding the deadly knife in hands. The armor tries to aim upward but at this distance it's too late.
As your body plunges down onto the armor, your arm brings the knife around plunging it into the exposed neck of the mechanical monster. But it's almost not enough!
"HAAAAAAAAAA!!!" Your shout turns to a scream as you drop your pistol and hammer your other hand onto the knife as well, beating the knife through the lesser armored neck.
As it breaks through you can see the stray streaks of electricity arcing out as the air crackles. Suddenly, a spray of thick, viscous, black liquid sprays out. But it isn't before long that it turns to a watery dark red, blood.
Hunched atop the now immobile armor you pant heavily, letting out a few deep gasps, trying to catch your breathing pace. "It's ov-"
"Chief! Chief!" Your attention gathered, you look up towards the voice. Deneb, jogging towards you, waving like a moron.
"D-Deneb..." You let go of the knife and fall off of the machine, crashing to the blood and oil flooded ground with a dull thud.
You hear the patter of footsteps in the heavy liquids, and before long the masked face looks down at you. "Great! You're alive! I was so worried chief!"
Suddenly overwhelmed by a plethora of emotions you begin to tear up. "Ha..." It was relieving to see Deneb was okay...but...those people on the bus...
...
"THE BUS!" Fire and oil did not mix well! Quickly sitting up into a 180* turn you watch as the oil creeps closer to the burning bus.
"Eh?"
Ru- wait, a hydrant! Wait, who's in the suit! Shit!
A. Get the hell out of there B. Try to get to the hydrant (somehow, might want to specify) C. Try to unmask the armor to see who it is and run

B - Use a prolonged, but timely and expert marksman pistol shot on the hydrant at the correct angle to put out the fire.

The gun! Where was it! You feel around your pants holster for the gun, failing to find it. You dropped it! The oil was quickly approaching the flame, and you were completely drenched in oil and blood right now!
"Deneb, your gun!" You yell, the panic in your voice obvious.
"W-what? Chief, calm do-"
"Now! NOW!"
You cling unto him, trying to still his pistol, but moronically he resists. "Hey chief stop it! I know you want me but-"
"Shut up!" With some minor struggling you manage to get the gun out of his holster, gripping as best you can through the slipper black substance.
Taking aim you try to line up the shot against the fire hydrant. If done correctly it could douse the flame AND wash away some of the oil.
But your hands shake because of your unsettled nerve. "I-I!" You can't do it! Your hands shake more and more violently the more you try to focus, too tense!
Suddenly Deneb's hand comes onto the gun, and as he tries to pull it out of your hands it goes off, striking the hydrant and letting out a highly pressurized stream of water, completely drenching the fire as if a sea poured onto it.
As you watch, your hands begin to settle, dropping down to the ground as you let out the greatest sigh of your life.
"Come on Chief, what the heck were you doing with my favorite magnum? It's all oily now", the idiot was trying to wipe away the oil...that shot...it was purely accidental...
"What happened here anyw- Oh! Chief! Those are bodies! That's a bus!??!"
As if it wasn't obvious... "Yes..." you respond tensely, a hint of frustration and sarcasm in your voice. "That machine...I...Killed them..." Your relief suddenly turned upside down, the gravity of the situation bearing down with all its might, pressing your heart. It was painful...there were several burnt husks in the bus, still sitting there... You shut your eyes and hold back the tears as you brave your own emotions, standing up carefully as to not slip.
"Come on, let's open it up", you command, walking to the armored suit. "You can pry it open right?"
"Eh? Maybe...but...Chief, this is a crime scene now right? We have to call for back up and get them scene geeks over here."
"I already called for back up..." You reply dryly.
"What? How? Communications were being blocked to HQ."
"What are you talking about? I contacted Tara just fine earlier. Besides, how wou-"
Deneb suddenly taps his helmet.
"Oh..."
"Tara? When did you have this conversation?"
"Wh-" Did he not listen in on the conversation over the mental relay? "When we were heading over here."
No...was she the one that...Was this a trap? Who was in that suit...
Shuffling your feet, you stumble towards it but Deneb stops you, holding your shoulder.
"Come on Chief, it's not like you to violate protocol. We need to wait for those guys, I'll call them right now."
Maybe...No doubt the military would quickly get involved too. Even as a Military Reserve Officer, active officers were treated differently...And this thing? New, some top secret military equipment? It had the Union Martial Force acronyms on it, on the shoulder near the rocket launcher pod, and another on the blaster rifle...Wait... You quickly eye the beam saber it was holding, it looked detachable. Eh...
A.Make Deneb unmask it B. Leave it alone and let back up arrive C. Try to salvage the beam saber D. Free choice

Your right hand latches onto the beam saber, trying to pry the mechanical grip around the beam saber loose.
"H-hey! Chief, what are you doing? You can't just take that. Chief, chief." Deneb looked like he was going to make a move to stop you, but as usual he didn't...too spineless.
"An-"
"Shut up and help me!" Your grip changes, both hands trying to pull apart the armored fingers. "Our typical weapons can't do anything this thing's armor! We're running around with peashooters, while this has beam weapons!" Grunting you start kicking the damned thing too. "Last time I checked beam weapons were only experimental! Haa, dammit!"
Suddenly Deneb's own armored fingers wrap around the dead mechanical suit's, slowly opening them up. Even if he was a moron...he was strong... "Jeez chief...you should've just let me do it from the start, now my fingers are all oily."
Taking the inactive weapon freely you wave it in his face. "Just be quiet! Don't let anyone know I took this!"
"A-alright! Just, let's not start a fire!" He puts his arms up in defense.
Briskly walking over to the flowing hydrant you carefully walk into the powerful stream of water. Withstanding it to make sure you can get some of that oil off. Luckily it wasn't too adhesive and came off with water fairly easily. You come out, dripping wet, wringing your loose scarlet hair. Looking just a distressed you walk over and take a seat on a side curb, Deneb following after you as you let out a forlorn sigh.
"Chief...are yo-"
"I can't believe this happened" you mutter, your mouth just a bit dry.
----
The REAL chief was now sitting by your side, his firm hand on your shoulder. "You asked to leave early today right? Ma-"
"I did?"
"You said you had a date."
Oh...It should have been good news, or reprise...received with mixed feelings.
"So why don't you take leave right now." It looked like it was only afternoon, the blue sun was far from the edge of the horizon, and it usually went down by early evening. "You could use the reprieve."
"I..."
"You should go Chief", Deneb chimes in, getting treated by a medical team. Hmm...He was fidgeting quite a bit, pushing away the medical assistant trying to examine his chest. "Don't touch that man!" Like an insecure woman he pulls his arms around his chest, trying to cover it up.... He still had his helmet on... Of course, he refused to take it off.
"Be quiet Deneb, you need rest too."
"Nah! I'm al- I mean, I think a day off could be helpful!"
A. Stay on duty B. Go home and rest for the rest of the day C. Go home and get ready for an evening out D. Go have lunch 1. By yourself 2. With Deneb E. Free choice
