Still, you’d better think fast, the boys seemed to be getting impatient and you yourself weren’t too fond of staying in the same place for so long either. “Heh, it’s kind of hard to think about your future plans with two knives at your throat, you know.” “All I’m hearing is someone stalling to answer a question.” The boy retorts. Before you can even begin to think about what to say the girl interjects “Stop it, Kyosuke. It’s getting late and we don’t want to be staying out in the open like now. Why don’t we continue this somewhere indoors? Besides, we both know-“ “You’re right. You may have said a little more than was necessary, but you’re right nonetheless.” You blankly follow their conversation, wondering what this entails for your little situation, when Kyosuke (“that’s what the girl called him, right?") turned back to the three of you, saying “Let’s go back.” “What’ll we do with this one, take him with us?” “Of course”, the girl nodded. “At least to finish the conversation, no?” Kyosuke agrees as he looks you in the eye. “Can you at least put the weapons down?” You take your chance. “You could’ve killed me long ago anyway and I’m pretty sure the weapons would only be overkill…” “Yeah, you do look pretty weak.” The boy on your left laughs. “Genma, Genji.” The boys nod and put down their knives. “And I’m Chikage” the girl introduces herself to you. “What’s your name?” She adds, almost as an afterthought…
A) Tatsuya B) Hayato C) Ein D) Free will
“Hayato. Shall we get going now?“ You answer her. You all walk past the cave, following the side of the mountain that booms over your head. “Where are we, anyway? One moment I’m walking through ruins, then a desert, now there’s a mountain, what is up with that?” Kyosuke glances over at you, responding “Quite talkative all of a sudden, aren’t you? Anyway, that’s more than you can chew at the moment, take it easy.” Taking some time to think things through, you make up your mind on what to ask them.
A) Where are we? B) What happened to the desert, and the oasis? C) Where are we going? D) Why didn’t we just enter that cave in the mountain?
Edit: ("These are your thoughts during conversation") Don't know if I'll use that a lot, so now you know, just in case.
Edit2: Yeah, I never could decide on the name and feel we should stick to japanese names, unless you all dislike the names I picked so far, then you should get on renaming them around now...

“Why didn’t we just enter that cave in the mountain?” Kyosuke seems irritated by that question. Quickly, Genji answers you “We’ve used that cave before. We’re not going back there anytime soon, not after last time…” “Plus there’s a pack of wolves resting in there. Anyone want to join them?” Chikage quips. As everyone remains silence, she continues “Thought not. Listen, Hayato, we should hurry up, can you run? We should be able to easily keep up with your fastest speed, so we can still answer some things on the way, if we can.”
A) Run as fast as you can. You won’t have the breath to talk, but you’ll get your answers once you’re all safe, right? B) Run at high speed, maybe get one more question in there. (specify) C) Ask some more questions, while running. (specify 2) D) (Try to) match the pace of the others. 3 questions, but random.
1) To Chikage: How old are you? 2) To Chikage: How do you know about the wolf pack?
3) To Genma: How old are you? 4) To Genma: Where’d you get the knives?
5) To Genji: How old are you? 6) To Genji: How did you all sneak up on me like that?
7) To Kyosuke: How old are you? 8) To Kyosuke: They your younger siblings?

I'm also wondering how their age is of any relevance. Also, we're running because of a wandering wolf pack? Think we'll get attacked should we go for the choice for more questions? Maybe we'll get to safety should we run at full speed or stumble into something before the others.
Hmm, the trade-offs....

When your group arrives at the other side of the mountain, a forest immediately grabs your attention, as it seemingly stretches out to fill the horizon. Over it the sun was on it’s way down, to complete it’s daily cycle. “Listen up,” Kyosuke calls you to him ‘we’re headed to the forest you’ve obviously noticed. The problem is the plains between that forest and us. You’ll have to go full speed as we must to cross that quickly and unseen, pretend it’s a race if you want to. Afterwards you can slow down to whatever pace you can handle, understood? Okay, let’s go.”
Instinctively, you lean forwards and sprint as fast as you can, after only 5 yards you reach optimal speed, moving at a steady pace, as to not blow your fuses before the “race” was over. Now, you’re not childish enough to think you were competing with your companions, nor stupid enough to think you could win, but you were competing. With yourself. And with time. Always hard to beat time. ”There’s no time for questions. Listen, your mother is already helping civilians evacuate, but she wanted me to get you away from here before I went to help her. The battle should still be at least 10 miles away from here, but there’s no telling how long we have. Grab on to me” Your father grabs you in a tight hug, when suddenly your environment blurs for a second. When you can see clearly again, you find yourself surrounded by trees and shrubbery, your little valley village still in sight behind you, in the distance…
“Looks like he can run after all” Kyosuke says to no one in particular. You hadn’t noticed them before, but, true to their word, they had all easily kept up with you. “We should’ve given him a head start, this race sucks!” Genji shouts out from behind you. “And risk not being in time to help if anything happens?” Genma responds from your left. “Sheesh, sorry for trying to have a little fun” You hear from behind, tough a lot softer than before.
“All right, this is it, time to kick it up a notch” you think as you pass the imaginary boundary you had set from yourself. From here to the forest you’d go full speed… As you accelerate further the wind that you had felt on your face increases in strength. “Oh, looks like he had a surprise in store for us” Chikage laughs, as you momentarily leave the group behind you, a bit stunned at the latest development.
That moment quickly passes, though. As you approach the edge of the forest you begin to regret not having waited a little while longer before accelerating to full speed. Normally you would have been able to keep this up longer, but your body was beginning to feel the effects of little rest and dehydration. Still, you’d be damned if you slowed down now. Giving it all you got, you make it to the edge of the forest, extremely winded, but the other aren’t even panting yet. Looks like you were still underestimating them all.
Now that you were in the forest running became a lot more difficult, making you all slow down to a slight jog. Within minutes you had regained your breath, taking more notice of your surroundings. Through the roof of leafs some beams of sunshine still made their way through, although with a greenish tint colouring the entire forest. Kyosuke had been running in front, Chikage on your left and one of the other boys on your right. “Uhm, Genji, right?” You say to him. As he nods you continue “So, I’ve been wondering, how did you all sneak up on me like that? You and Genma, especially. I never even saw or heard you coming.” “Long story, really. Short answer is, we didn’t. Long answer, you’ll have to hear from Kyosuke. Not sure, he’ll want to tell you already, the guy can be rather paranoid.” “He doesn’t trust me, right?” You remark. “Well, probably not yet no, but I mainly meant that ‘the trees have ears’ if you catch my drift.”
The five of you reach an open space in the forest, bathing in sunshine the grass has grown there to magnificent length. As the group splits up, you
A) stay where you are, out of the light. B) Go towards the center of the clearing C) Go sit in the grass D) Lean against a tree

Closing votes (Maybe a bit early, but D was my favorite ) The group arrives at a clearing in the forest, bathing in sunshine. Kyosuke makes his way into the tall grass, seemingly looking for something, as Genma and Genji make their way to some trees at the other side of the open area. Unsure of what do to, you stop and make your way over to a random tree. “Not yet” Chikage stops you, grabbing your arm. “We’ve trapped this place heavily and all traps have to be deactivated at the exact same time or all of them activate. A precaution for if someone finds one of the deactivation mechanisms by coincidence.” Out of a corner in your eye you see Kyosuke raise his hand, upon which Chikage pressed against the tree as you saw Genma do the same to another tree. Assuming Genji had done something similar, you turn back to Kyosuke who had pulled out a stretch of grass, seemingly connected to a board of wood. I’m not even sure what they did to disarm the traps she spoke of… They’re good.” You think to yourself as you make your way to where Kyosuke is standing. He looks smaller though; sure enough he’s standing in a tunnel underneath the plains. “Hurry up” he motions to you “We haven’t got all day, you’ll have to crawl for about 8 feet or so, then the tunnel grows in size.” You jump into the hole in the ground, getting on all fours as you make your way deeper into the tunnel. Soon enough you find you’re able to walk crouched and afterwards you can even stand. Behind you Genji is the first to follow. You wait for him to catch up and he tells you to “Wait up, it’s not far now and we can all walk together if we wait for a second.” “Sure”, you respond. ”So what do you know about what happened to me before?” you quickly add, as your last conversation pops into your head. “Pretty much all I know is, the military uses some such techniques as part of their repertoire, illusionary techs, Kyosuke somehow knows how to use one and the effect is different for everyone. I don’t even know what you saw before he lifted it.” “Who lifted what?” Apparently Chikage had followed after Genji. “Kyosuke, lifting the illusion he cast, this one thought we all snuck up on him.” He added, with a grin. “Oh. Hehe.” Genma laughs. “Yeah, I guess that’s what it looks like for you on the receiving end.” Hearing this, Chikage, who had been stifling her laughter before, just gave up on trying and let it all out with the others, leaving you very confused. “So, if I get this straight, you’re the ones responsible for putting me in a desert for hours and then taking away my only hope, an oasis with a pond of deliciously fresh, fresh water? And now you’re laughing about it?” You feel yourself getting worked up as a heavy hand rests itself on your shoulder. “Nope, I’m the one responsible for that, though I didn’t know in advance…” Kyosuke finishes his sentences mumbling almost apologetically. “And they’re not laughing at you, honestly, so please don’t blame them for letting themselves go. It helps to deal with the stress, somewhat, you’ll see. “Maybe when I’ve got something to laugh about” You responds, still a little heated. “Can we get going now?” You impatiently add. “We’re all here now, right?” “That we are”, Chikage laughs once more, as you all make your way to the end of the tunnel. Genji lights a match and grabs some torches from the wall. He lights them and gives Genji and Kyosuke one each, holding one for himself. With the extra light you can now see that the tunnel, while a dead end, has enlarged to a space of about ten by ten feet and 15 feet of height. The others jump down to the ground, as you make your way to the makeshift stairs someone had carved into the wall of the tunnel. As you rejoin the group Chikage tells you “It’s not much, but it’s Home, now.” “Understatement of the year,” you think as you observe your surroundings. There’s not much to observe anyway, outside of a pile of mattresses, around 7 to be precise, and a bit of scorched earth, probably from cooking something, your new home has no defining characteristics. You get the feeling the only reason they’d come here is for spending the night. “Now, back to you, Hayato, what were you doing out there, before the desert, I mean?” A) Going south, crossing the southern border B) Trying to outrun the sound of fighting, and surviving B1) crossing any borders necessary B2) wanting to stay in your own country C) looking for shelter for the night, thanks, don’t suppose you’ve got water too? D) I don’t know. Not even a clue of where I had been before I met you guys.

“I was headed south, looking to cross the southern border. Those were my father’s last instructions to me,” you say in a low voice, looking slightly downwards. “The battle had come closer and closer to the valley where my village was situated, in the Nord-West of Central country. We’re still in Central country, right? As the others nod you continue “My mother had already been helping people evacuate and my father was going to join her once he got me out of harm’s way. I’ve been making my way south ever since… Must’ve been about a month ago now. So am I close to the border yet?” Kyosuke nods “ I estimate the southern border on a few days’ worth of travel from here, at your pace. We’re also pretty close to the Western border. This is a bit of a no man’s land between the populated areas of both countries. You’ve made good time, man.” “Thanks, I guess” you say, “so what happens now?” “Now, we prepare dinner, we were out hunting when we spotted you. I imagine you’re pretty beat, just sit down for now and rest. I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.” Chikage responds. “We’ll talk a bit more during dinner and go to sleep afterwards, it’s been a long day for all of us.”
You grab a mattress, lie down on it and close your eyes for a little while. Maybe you should try to think of something to talk about during dinner. As your mind drifts along various topics, you lose track of time…
A) Inquire further about illusionary techniques. B) Inquire about other military techniques. C) Ask about tomorrow and the day after that (basically what’s up for now). D) Ask why they took you with them.
(Add the name of the person you want to ask your question. You'll still get your answer if that person doesn't know and a bonus if s/he does)

“Hey, you asleep?” Kyosuke calls out to you, seemingly only moments after you laid down. Maybe you did drift off for a little while? “No, I’m up,” you answer, getting up to join the others. They had grilled a few birds, maybe swallows, you can’t really tell. Other than that you had the choice between, apples, pears and some blueberries. A bottle of water completed the meal. Not what you’d call a feast, but it was better than you’d had in quite a while. You mostly made due with just some berries, sometimes a rabbit to cook, if you were lucky. You quickly sat by the others, in a circle around the still smouldering fire. You all ate in silence at first, you were mostly preoccupied with stilling your hunger, for once you had food in your sight your stomach could no longer be ignored.
However, once most of the food had disappeared and your stomach quite satisfied, you felt you had more urgent matters on your mind. “You know, I’m having a bit of a hard time grasping all this. One moment you’re threatening me with weapons, the next you’re taking me with you to your shelter, offering me food, water and a safe place to rest. I’m expecting a catch of some sort. Glancing over to Chikage sitting on your right, you add “I just don’t see why you’d trust me after so little time.” Kyosuke was the first to reply “Hmmm, I wasn’t too sure about you myself, but with that question I have a bit more faith in you. Mind I wasn’t questioning your intentions, but whether or not you could pull your own weight over time here with us. Glad to see you have a decent head on your shoulders. As for why we trust you…” He motions over to Chikage, who continues. “This is going to sound weird, but ever since I was little I have always been vaguely aware of where the people around me where. As I got older, I noticed if I actively focused on someone’s presence I could feel their mood. This expanded to reading a person’s intent and much later, to telling lies from truth as if it were written on their forehead. Once I noticed your presence, Kyosuke cast his illusion so you’d make your way towards us, so I could feel your mood and intentions. I know what you were feeling back then and I know you haven’t tried to deceive us.” She smiles at you. “And I trust Chikage’s judgment.” Kyosuke adds. “As do we.” Genma finishes, as Genji nods.
Although glad they didn’t seem to want anything from you, the whole story had been hard to swallow, I mean sensing people? A human lie detector and mood ring in one? Seriously? You ponder if they could just be messing with you, but man, do they seem serious. Their seriousness, added with the utter silence, made you nervous. You knew you had to say something, anything.
A) You guys are off your rockers. B) Come again? C) Can you teach me? D) Thanks for trusting me, I guess.
