Wouldn't want Oro surprising us and vomitting himself out of immobilization. Shik should have just enough chakra left to quickly stab him and end the technique... not sure he'd have the chakra to hold him. If we fail this turn though, it'll probably turn into a 1v1.
Hey gang, what are the differences between Yama's two techniques?

I'm pretty sure that Oro's body didn't gain it's ...unique... properties until after he had left the leaf, so we shouldn't have to worry about that.
As for the Yamanaka techs, from what I gather the switch transfers the user's mind into the target while the disturbance effects the targets mind and affords a more limited amount of control without the user losing consciousness.
Anyway, I'll vote 1A, A.

As far as I know, Shik only has 50 chakra left:
300-150+50(initial cost and per turn cost)+50(2nd turn)=50
Not sure he has the chakra to hold him down.
Changing vote to 1B (aim for Orochimaru's hands), A

Hmm, I suppose so, but I think Shikaku still has 100 chakra left, since it doesn't seems right to have a maintenance cost on the same turn as the initial cost.
Switch to 1B, A.

“Well then, we better finish this quickly shouldn’t we?” You ask both your teammates with a cocky smile.
Shikaku manages to give a small grin behind his exhausted expression. He forms a second seal before yelling, “Hang in there Inoichi!”
You hear Inoichi grunt in response, he’s obviously fighting a losing battle. “I have five more seconds max; if you’re going to do something, I suggest you do it now!” Inoichi yells loudly.
“You heard the man.” Shikaku says as he shifts his gaze towards you. “I’ll lead, you follow-up my attack.”
You quickly nod.
The three tendrils suddenly dart towards Orochimaru at an alarming pace, the sharp ends sticking forward. You quickly sprint in a vain attempt to keep up with the shadows, reaching out your arms in anticipation to grab Orochimaru’s face. As you are running, you look up towards Orochimaru to make sure he’s still under the effect of Inoichi’s technique: he isn’t. You widen your eyes in surprise before looking back towards Inoichi; he’s vomiting profusely on the ground.
“Very, very impressive children, but I’m afraid the charade has lasted long enough.” Orochimaru says softly before forming four seals.
“SHIT! GET COVER!” You yell frantically before throwing a kunai at Orochimaru.
“Ah…crap.” Shikaku yells submissively.
“Wind Release: Great Breakthrough.” Orochimaru says softly.
Suddenly, a large, powerful gust of wind blows towards you and your team. The kunai you threw instantly changes direction due to the wind, and grazes your left cheek. You struggle futilely to hold your ground, but the wind simply overwhelms you. Your body is lifted effortlessly by the wind, and you crash into a very hard object before blacking out.
--
You suddenly regain consciousness God knows how much later. Your vision is blinded by a thick veil of darkness, and your head is both warm and aching in pain. Even though you have no idea where you are, you feel something putting pressure on your stomach, and a mystical sound is emanating from it.
“…Damn it Orochimaru, I told you to go easy on them!” You hear a feminine voice say from behind a veil of darkness.
“…My apologizes Tsunade. You know how my blood boils when I fight.” A second voice hisses softly.
“You’re lucky their damages are minimal Orochimaru.” Tsunade says threateningly. “Hey kid, your okay now, open up your eyes.”
You slowly open up your eyes and see both Tsunade’s and Orochimaru’s face looking down on you. To your surprise, Tsunade’s hands is what was pressing down on your chest; they’re glowing a mystical light-green color.
“Ugh…what happened?” You ask weakly as you try to get up, but are immediately pushed back down by Tsunade.
“Don’t get up yet Ardal. Your ribs are still broken.” Tsunade says with a small hint of concern.
“My apologies child, it seems I went a little too far with you and your team.” Orochimaru apologizes with sincerity.
“My team…..! Inoichi! Shikaku! Are they alright?!” You ask frantically.
“Were fine Ardal.” You hear Shikaku say from out of your sight.
“Mostly….atleast.” Inoichi complains. “I’m still vomiting chunks from that genjutsu Orochimaru put on me.”
You sigh in relief at the fact your teammates are both okay. Tsunade seems to give a small smile at your concern.
“I’ve healed your ribs now, try to get up, but do it slowly!” Tsunade orders before lifting her hands from your chest.
You give a small groan before slowly trying to get back up with much difficulty.
“Allow me.” Orochimaru adds as small snakes coil from out of his sleeves. They quickly coil around your limbs and help you get back to your feet.
“I must say Tsunade.” Orochimaru says suddenly as the snakes begin to return up his sleeve. “Your team is quite impressive….much better than the one I’ve been forced to train.”
Tsunade raises a single eyebrow at Orochimaru before replying.
“Forced? If I remember correctly, you were adamant in being able to train the Uchiha kid….and overjoyed when the Third Hokage appeased to you.” Tsunade says with a hint of annoyance.
“True…I was at first excited that Uchiha Fugaku was placed under my supervision.” Orochimaru admits apathetically. “But his blood-line is much less…..interesting than this child’s. I’ve never seen anything like it! I must know the secret behind it.”
Tsunade and Orochimaru both look at you, albeit with different expressions. The way Orochimaru is looking at you is strange, it almost looks hungry….there’s something very odd about this person. Tsunade’s eyes, on the other hand, look soft and sympathetic.
“I will allow Ardal to choose whether or not he wants to disclose this information to you. A talented shinobi shouldn’t disclose his secrets so easily.” Tsunade says seriously.
“Of course! I wouldn’t DREAM of asking such a favor with nothing in return! Tell me kid….how would you like to learn the techniques of the snake? One secret in exchange for another?” Orochimaru asks temptingly.
“THAT IS GOING TOO FAR!” Tsunade yells in outrage.
“What’s wrong Tsunade? Did you have thoughts on teaching him the ways of the slug instead?” Orochimaru asks mockingly.
Tsunade only scowls angrily before shifting her gaze back towards you; it is now very serious.
Snake? Slug? You don’t really know what Orochimaru is talking about, but you have a really important decision to make now….do you tell him?
A) Yes, explain the nature of the Kikochu B) No, a secret is a secret C) Try to lie to him

Here's a little help for Ardal's character development.
When I first gave you the option to choose the Kikochu, I stated that taijutsu and speed would be important for that type of character.
That doesn't mean, however, that it should be the ONLY skills you invest in.
For example, if you had chosen to accept Orochimaru's offer, you would've needed to buff up your ninjutsu stat in order to comprehend his lessons.
There will also be a chance a little further down the line to have both the Kikaichu and Kikochu inside your body, but you will also need to buff up your ninjutsu and stamina to do it.
So...the moral of the story is; Ninjutsu and Stamina are still very important

“I’m afraid I can’t oblige to your request Orochimaru. My techniques are mine alone, and I cannot risk the welfare of my clan by revealing their secrets.” You say coolly.
For a fraction of a second, you see Orochimaru’s eyes flash in anger. Before you can point him out on that, however, he restores his polite persona.
“That is….unfortunate. It is not common that a technique would pique my interest.” Orochimaru says softly.
“Respect his decision Orochimaru.” Tsunade says forcefully. “You cannot blame him for being prudent.
Orochimaru only nods grudgingly at your master’s request. Your two teammates quickly make their way to your side. You notice that Shikaku is being forced to support Inoichi on his shoulder…much to his annoyance.
“How did we do sensei?!” Inoichi questions with an almost child-like excitement.
“All three of you showed talent much greater than that of an average genin. The examination was a resounding success.” Tsunade says before giving a small, warm smile.
“I agree…but I still believe my team is still slightly better overall. Uchiha Fugaku is already showing signs of awakening his sharingan.” Orochimaru brags.
You notice Tsunade rolls her eyes at Orochimaru’s statement before replying.
“You’re just like Jiraiya, Orochimaru. He was going on all day about his precious “Minato,” and how he would single-handedly wipe out my team in the upcoming Chunin exams.” Tsunade says annoyingly, a strong hint of pretentiousness in her voice.
“You know how Jiraiya is Tsunade. Unlike him, my claims are actually backed by logic and merit…not blind devotion.” Orochimaru replies playfully.
Tsunade’s face cracks in anger before she turns and faces Orochimaru directly, her face intimidatingly close to his.
“Would you like to make a wager on that?!” Tsunade barks angrily.
“You’ve never been good at gambling.” Orochimaru teases playfully, not cowering the slightest under Tsunade’s piercing glare.
“My team will outclass yours in the next Chunin exams! I bet my grandfather’s necklace on it!” Tsunade retorts furiously, completely ignoring Orochimaru’s last statement.
“The First Hokage’s necklace? Given the track record of its previous owners….I find myself hardly wanting it.” Orochimaru hisses before calmly turning around and walking away.
You hear Tsunade growl angrily at Orochimaru’s statement. She then quickly shifts her gaze towards you and your teammates.
“Don’t you dare make me regret saying that! You better DESTROY Orochimaru’s team at the exams, got it?!” Tsunade yells furiously at all three of you.

I'd personally prefer not having the Kikaichu, but only using our Kikochu to their fullest potential. Maybe we could be an MC that actually USES ninja tools, like traps, wires, etc etc. That way we'd use our high taijutsu for both short-range GG bug attacks, and for mid-long range traps to lure in opponents to close range. Perhaps we could make wires capable of sending bugs through, like we did with Orochimaru's snakes.
And this fight showed us a flaw in our team; that flaw is us. We did not have the speed necessary to catch Orochimaru before he broke Inoichi's technique.
+4 speed, 1 stamina
With high speed and taijutsu, we can capitalize on our teammates stunning opponents even for a second.

I don't like the idea about our character being completely specialized towards Close-Combat. Our chakra supply is horrifyingly low, which directly correlates both to the amount of bugs we have and the techniques we can use. (remember, we are still an ABURAME clan member.)
Not only that, we will undoubtedly require SOME form of ninjutsu down the line. Our only techniques right now is using our Kikochu, and then creating an antidote for them. There's no Shunshin, Kawaraimi, etc. Our clan already gives us a nifty bonus to Ninjutsu, why should we waste it? I honestly don't see how our character can become "god-tier" if we don't keep our options open. Having a cross of Kikaichu and Kikochu in our body is a god-send. Not only will we be able to use the Aburame's versatile techniques, but we will regain the ability to scout using our bugs, greatly improving our use towards the team. And the stats we need to do that (Stamina and Ninjutsu) both benefit us greatly anyways. I see no reason why we shouldn't venture down this road.
Ganguro has foreshadowed that WE may perhaps be the successor of Tsunade, and her medical techniques and what not will undoubtedly require skills in Ninjutsu. Not only that, a more diverse stat allocation will probably prepare us for whatever other nifty bonuses we may encounter down the road.

I concede that I mostly agree with you, ensign. But, we're still genin. Genin with major strenghts - speed and taijutsu, for example - are much stronger than their well-rounded counterparts. Both Lee and Gaara are both top-tier due to their specilization. Our one move, an S-Rank technique, uses speed and taijutsu. By investing a lot in speed now and spending all points in nin/int/sta latter, we'd get more benefit.

+4 speed, +1 stamina
It's likely that in the exams we'll be facing one of the following: Hiashi, Fugaku, or Minato. In order to stand a chance against any of them we're going to need enough speed to catch them/get pass their defense.

Post by ensignsulu on Mar 9, 2011 3:08:33 GMT
I agree with that too, but I believe that the fact they and everyone else were genin is what made their specialization seemed so impressive in the first place. I mean besides Gaara, who is obviously a special case, lets take a look at Lee.
Rock Lee was an absolute beast in the first part of the manga, simply because his overspecialization in taijutsu made him much stronger than all the other genins. Once we got to part 2, however, and everyone started to jump leaps and bounds in terms of power, his taijutsu prowess seem much less impressive.....which was the only thing he could ever do.
What I'm trying to say is, we shouldn't focus on a certain build just because the benefits can be reaped quicker. I feel if we improve our four main stats (Taijutsu, Stamina, Ninjutsu, and Speed) evenly, we will be much stronger in the long-run.
Besides, I find it would be much more enjoyable to play a character who steadily gains power.
I will concede to focusing this stat-boost on speed if yall promise not to abandon ninjutsu and stamina during the progress.

I don't plan to abandon the other aspects of combat. I only want to focus on our taijutsu for now so that we'll have a solid foundation for combat. After that we can begin to work in the other forms in order to supplement our style.

I'd agree not to abandon ninjutsu and stamina. And lets be fair - Lee is only weak in Part 2 because Hard Work Hardly Works. Gai's 7th Gate is ridiculous. If Lee kept growing to Gai's level, Lee would be ridiculous, too.

I think that ensign is walking the fine line between overspecialization and spreading ourselves too thin. I absolutely disagree with his reasoning on why we need other skills(at least, the ones I picked up when I skimmed through), though I do agree we should have something to fall back on, key words being "fall back". For now, don't yank this in every which direction. He has bugs, and requires touch. That's what we'll focus on. We have two teammates who snare.
