The next two months was spent with you and your team training profusely. During your mock-fight with Orochimaru; Tsunade was carefully collecting data on each one of your skills, techniques, and weaknesses. Using that information, she was able to devise independent training regiments for each of you, all combating your individual weaknesses.
For Inoichi, Tsunade noticed that he had a low tolerance for genjutsu attacks. Because of this, she sent him to be privately tutored by a man named Danzo Shimura.
“I’m not much of a genjutsu user unfortunately.” Tsunade admits. “I have neither the skill nor the qualification to teach you it personally.”
“But…but you’re Lady Tsunade! A Sannin and one of the greatest ninjas in the world!” Inoichi complains.
Tsunade gives a small chuckle before playfully roughing up his long, blond hair.
“Part of being great is knowing your limits.” She explains kindly. “As much as I hate Danzo…I can’t deny his talent in genjutsu. I’m willing to set aside my personal discriminations if I know my student will benefit from his tutelage.”
After that small pep-talk, Inoichi grudgingly accepted his new tutor, and was required to report to Danzo every day for the next two months.
For Shikaku, Tsunade noticed that although his proficiency in ninjutsu was decent, his stamina was absolutely abysmal. Using another one of her personal favors, she was able to pull some strings and allow him to be personally tutored by Hiruzen, the third hokage himself.
“You have no idea how hard it was for me to schedule this.” Tsunade warned soon after she told Shikaku the news. “Training under Sarutobi-Sensei is an honor….don’t you dare embarrass me by wasting his time with anything less than your very best!”
“I know.” Shikaku replied simply, with a small hint of pride in his voice.
From then on, like Inoichi, Shikaku would report to someone else for the next two months.
“And now…..we have you.” Tsunade says with a small sigh.
“I suppose you’re now going to delegate your responsibilities as a teacher to someone else again?” You ask in a playfully sarcastic tone.
“Actually, I will be personally supervising your training.” Tsunade retorted bluntly. “And you ill now refer to me as LADY Tsunade.”
“Wait…what?” You ask, clearly surprised.
“I told you earlier that I would have to spend more time on your training right?” She asks with a slightly raised eyebrow.
“I..”
“Enough. We’re going to have to start right away” Tsunade interrupts quickly as she claps her hands. “You mentioned earlier that everything you know is self-taught, correct? Including your fighting style?”
You nod before answering.
“That is correct. The Aburame are not known for being skilled at taijutsu. My knowledge in it has been derived from books and scrolls.” You reply with a shrug.
“Books and scrolls might pass as teachers for ninjutsu, but taijutsu can only be learned in person.” Tsunade says simply. “It seems the first thing we have to work on is teaching you a taijutsu style….MY style.”
Your eyes widen at the thought of fighting like Lady Tsunade. Images of her crushing solid stone with her punches and creating earthquakes with her kicks flash quickly through your mind….can you really learn how to do that?
“But…Lady Tsunade. Your fighting style revolves around your monstrous strength. I don’t possess such a ….gift.” You explain with a small hint of sadness.
The hint didn’t go unnoticed by your sensei. She replies with a much softer tone.
“My strength can be learned.” She says simply. “There is nothing more you need to know about it for now. Instead, we need to work your speed; you’re much too slow right now to even learn the basics of my style.”
“But…how do I become “faster?”
“Same way I did. With these.” Tsunade says as she pulls out four red ankle weights.
And for the next two months, you trained vehemently to increase your speed. At first, the weights around your legs made it almost impossible for you to walk. Eventually, however, you were able to revert back to your normal speed, even WITH the weights on.
When the last day of the second month finally came, you took off your weights.
“Wow..I feel light as a feather.” You said in awe as the burden around your leg suddenly disappeared.
“Your speed has probably doubled due to training. It’s still not enough, but you’re getting there.” Tsunade explained with a nod.
“If my speed is still not enough, why take them off now? I can survive another two months with them on.” You said curiously.
“Two reasons. One, your muscles need time to naturally regenerate due to the tear your weights have caused. If we don’t let them rest, you’ll just be torturing your body, not making it better.” Tsunade explains.
“Can’t you just heal them yourself?” You interrupt.
“…I could, but I have a feeling the bugs inside of you wouldn’t react well with my chakra flowing throughout your body.” Tsunade retorts with a hint of impatience.
Your eyes widen as you suddenly remember what your father had once said. The reason the Aburame have such a high mortality rate during missions, is because medic-nins simply can’t operate on them. Their healing techniques-which focus on using their chakra to catalyze natural healing processes-, have been known to cause the bugs inside an Aburame to go absolutely berserk, due to the foreign chakra they’re forced to eat. This causes the bugs to literally consume the Aburame from the inside-out…causing death almost certainly. Wait…but didn’t she heal you back when you were fighting Orochimaru?
“But…back then yo-!”
“It was different back then.” Tsunade interrupts. “Through the use of a seal, Orochimaru was able to temporarily change my chakra so that it mimicked yours, fooling the bugs nesting inside you. I have a feeling he won’t be too keen on the idea of helping me train you to defeat his team.”
“I…am a fool.” You admit bitterly to both yourself and Lady Tsunade. You can’t believe how easily you had forgotten such an important fact.
“It’s okay Ardal, we all have our slips.” Tsunade replies kindly before giving a small smile. “Anyways, the second reason were taking them off is that you have to be in prime condition for your first mission.”
“ Wait…you said “your,” don’t you mean “our” first mission?” You ask curiously.
Tsunade laughs softly at your astuteness.
“No. I will not be accompanying you on your mission. Instead, you three will be doing a joint-mission with Jiraiya’s kids. Both he and I believe you will all learn best if you work with your peers rather than your clear superiors.” Tsunade explains playfully.
“Well…it makes sense.” You think quietly to yourself.
“Anyways, the full details of the mission haven’t been made yet, but expect to leave in the following week or so. Until then….I’ll let you relax a little bit. You’ve worked hard these past two months.” Tsunade says simply.
Your eyes light up at the thought of finally having some free time. Before you leave, however, is there something you want to do?
A) Ask Tsunade how you’re going to deal with the fact you can’t be healed without very special circumstances.
B) Ask Tsunade when she’s going to actually teach you her style
C) Ask Tsunade where Orochimaru is, maybe it’s not too late to learn about snake techniques.
D) Ask Tsunade where Jiraiya and his team are….you need to gather info.
E) Nope, g o home and read up on the Kikochu scrolls.
F) Nope, go home and rest
G) Nope, go visit Shikaku
H) Nope, go visit Inoichi
I) Something else
