Looking around, you could spot her on the phone at the front of a crowd behind the barricade. "I see you", you say, walking over to her.
"Oh me too! Hey! Hey!" Waving at you, she gives you her biggest smile, the kind that she seemed to put all her joy and loveliness for all to see. She even started jumping.
"You're embarrassing yourself you know", you warn her as you close the distance.
"Hmm, I hope I'm embarrassing you too!"
As you casually push aside the police drones keeping the barrier she immediately hugs you the best she could. "Thank goodness you're alive!"
"Ann, geez, you don-"
She starts sobbing. "I don't know-hic, what I would've -hic, done if you were gone!"
"Uhh..." You pat her back and begin escorting her away from the scene, pushing and fending away staring bystanders. "Ann, Ann, it's really okay." She tended to get emotional, but never like this. You could only imagine it was because she cared, a happy thought. "You know...I can't drive you home."
"It's okay", she assures as she wipes away her tears, still sniffling. "I brought an umbrella for us anyway."
"Well why didn't you use it? You're soaking wet." She was completely drenched from head to toe, good thing she at least brought her coat. You had a strange feeling when you looked at her.
---
Standing outside Ann's doorstep you excuse yourself. "I'll see you later Ann, you going to work tomorrow?"
"Yeah, don't worry about the ride or anything."
"Alright."
Squirming around awkwardly you could guess something was on her mind.
"Something the matter?"
"N-nothing."
"Well, alright. I'll see you."
Heading to your own flat you examine the armor in the mirror, as far as external damage went it looked fine. But that was only on the surface...Removing your helmet you take a good look in the mirror, you didn't like what you saw, better not let anyone else see.
The next morning.
A) Time to go to work B) Walk Ann to her deli anyway C) Go see Joseph and see if he can't help D) Go to your hideout and examine the armor closely.

"Hey! I'm leaving!" Ann announced loudly as she left out the door, grabbing the umbrella as she left. She was always up and early to get to work.
"Later". The first things first, you call the police station to take the day off.
"Hello?"
"Hello, what is the emer-"
"It's Deneb, tell the chief I'm not coming in today alright?"
"Oh, sure. You still hurtin' from yesterday? I saw you just walk off-"
"Yea, a bit, but I think I'll be alright with some rest", you lie.
"You sure? You should go to the hosp-"
"Derek, really. I'm fine. I'll seeya." It seemed weird to hear the people from the department actually worry, they usually looked down on you.
"O-oh, alright. Bye, stay safe alright?" Annoyed, you hang up on him immediately.
---
The storage building was actually out of the city, out in the ocean that surrounded it. It took two hours or so by a boat. One more thing, it was underwater with only a small platform on the surface.
You could see a large fanged fish swim by, gaping its maw around trying to catch prey. "Mirrors on." The clear windows suddenly shifted their texture into a mirror, allowing yourself to closely examine yourself, but it wouldn't do. First you remove the helmet and toss it onto a nearby bench. Looking in the mirror you saw what you hated. Your fingers traced over your right eye, then pull it over to the left side of your face. Three red sensors glowed where human eyes would normally be. The metal followed along the side of your face all the way down to your lower jaw, completely exposed metal. It had been nearly 40 years since you shut away that face...
You remove the armor next, unlatching it and setting it down on the bench along with helmet. Grabbing a few tools you get to work on it right away.
According to the sensor, it could only support 19 more years. Just a bit of coincidence? Maybe 19 would be fine... Plus two, until your body failed on its own.
"Number 19, 19. It's time to wake up."
You open your eyes. A white color seemed to flow in, what was this? Suddenly colors came began to slowly fade in. Peach, light blue, light brown? Colors! They seemed to form something, a fa-face? Shadows seemed to flow along the folds in the face. "Hello 19, welcome to existence!" It was an older man, a kindly looking person, you could see it in his life-full eyes.
"Who are you?" You inquired.
"I am Professor Zwei, I created you!"
"Okay...Who am I?"
"Well you are nine-teen!"
"Nine...teen?"
"Yes, yes!"
You could feel your arms and hands, even your chest, but nothing below.
"Professor...I can't feel my legs."
"Ah! Don't worry about it for now, just go back to sleep."
The colors seemed to fade suddenly, you were losing the use of your senses, slowly fading into darkness. "Okay...", you mumble.
---
You suddenly woke to the sound of shouts. "Ah! No! Please don't!" The professor's voice.
"We're taking it! You should be arrested for this!" A woman's voice, it sounded fierce and passionate.
"Please, please! He's all I have!"
"He?" This time it was another man, the pitch was deep and dull. He sounded much calmer than the woman.
"Yes! You can't take him! He's my son!"
"Geez! Old man, you know what you're doing is illegal? We have to take him, just be glad we're letting you off the hook!" Trying to inhale sharply you open your eyes and take in the view. A woman in armor was speaking to the professor. Her crimson red hair was tied up into a messy tail and from what you could tell she was wearing some sort of militaristic armor. You weren't sure how, but you knew the design belonged to the Unified Alliance. The man standing next to her also wore it. He had a simple buzzcut, dark brown hair. They looked to be in their prime, late 20s maybe. But the professor...he looked so old; his hair was completely white and wrinkles ruined his face. He had a hunched back and tired baggy eyes too.
"He's awake!"
You could feel it, your body. But there were restraints of some sort, no matter. You easily pull them off and step forward.
"Oh damn...You!" Was the girl talking to you? She was looking at you...but she turned to the Prof. "What's his name?"
"N-name? Oh! Nineteen!"
"Huh? That's boring..." She suddenly turned back to you, raising her finger at you. "You! Nineteen! You're going to come with us!"
"...Why?" Who were these people? Where was this? What exactly...was going on?
"Why?" She sounded annoyed. "Because it's the law! Otherwise this old man's gonna go to jail!"
"Jail?" That seemed to register with you. Jail was a place for criminals! Was the professor a criminal? "Has the Professor done something wrong?"
"Yeah."
"What has he done?"
"I've done not-"
"Be quiet old man. I can't explain clearly right now, but you have to come with us if you want us to leave him alone."
"Anke, are you sure this is a good idea?"
"Man! You be quiet too!" The woman, Anke, yelled at her partner. "So?" She held out her hand in offering.
A) Go with the two B) Go with them but only if they bring the Professor C) Refuse them and escape D) Refuse and escape with the professor E) Refuse and try to fight them off

"I'll go with you Ms. Anke"
"It's Lieutenant Anke! And you can just call me Lieutenant!" She sure was snappy.
"But Nineteen! Who knows what they'll do to you!" The Professor, your 'father', objected vehemently, "I can't let you! You must not!"
"Seriously old timer, it'd be best if you just be quiet", The Lieutenant's partner warned.
"It's okay father", you answer calmly, "I'm sure I will be fine." You look to the Lt's partner, who only shrugs, and then to the Lt. who nods.
"Sure, sure."
"See?"
"..."
The two of them escorted you out of the facility. From the outside it looked like a company complex. Rows and scores of reflective panels on the outside and some sort of manufacturing plant on the right side. All of it seemingly hovering above water, like a moat. The outside world was... Ruins, nothing but ruins. Remnants of a city.
"Hey Anke, you know those old zombie movies?"
"Astonage, I swear-"
"This place would be perfect for zombies. Dirty old rotten metropolis, just waiting for zombies to pop out."
"What, you want zombies?"
"Well no, I'm just sayin"
"Listen bud, we're already in a monster movie, let's try not to wish for worse, so shut up."
"Yeah, sorry."
You chimed in on the Lieutenant's odd wording. "Monster movie? Is that figurative language?"
"What? How long have you even been active?" She retorted.
"I believe I was...active...since today."
"But you called the old timer Father", Astonage inquired, "Why would call him that?"
"Isn't that obvious?" The lt. added sarcastically.
Unable to comprehend the situation you answer honestly, "Because he called me his Son."
"Oh..." Astonage whispered but there was surprise in his expression.
"But Lieutenant, about being in a "Monster movie", what did you mean?"
"Geez. Alright, you're about to get up to date with the times!" Nudging Astonage she gives him a command, "Fill him in!"
"Damn Anke, can't yo-"
"Do it!"
You step over what appeared to be discarded armor, still following the pair. Strange, it didn't look like it would fit a human.
"Right right. Basically...Humanity is at war with living play-doh."
"Play...doh."
"Uh, living clay, whatever."
"I'm afraid I don't understand..."
"Geez Asta, just tell him what they are."
"Well okay, humanity is at war against aliens. They're like...living flesh, formless stuff, we call 'em The Flesh."
"I see..."
"But they're shapeshifters too! They can turn into animals, monsters, stuff like that, after they assimilate originals that is."
"So they can take the form of humans as well?"
"Ye- Wait. Are you implying something? Anke, listen to this thin-"
"Guy", she cuts in.
"Yeah, this guy."
"I don't think I am", you reply. "May I ask where we are going?"
"Our ship, it's just outside the city", the lieutenant answered, she seemed distracted, looking around.
"And may I ask about this city? What happened to it? And why does the Professor live here alone?"
"This? This place...It used to be the capital of the UA, before it got obliterated, literally. This area, it's only like a hundredth of the original city."
"What happened to it..."
"The Flesh got to it", Astonage replies in lieu of the Lt. "They used some sort of weapon and then landed to assimilate survivors."
"They're that advanced?"
"Well, they're not as advanced as us...But they're close, plus they're just naturally...eh, I don't know."
"It wasn't them, it couldn't have been", Anke remarks.
"Aww, Anke, not that again."
"What?" You ask.
"She thinks there's some alien overlord or something pulling strings."
"They don't have to be alien. Anyway...I think we have contact." She raises her rifle and Astonage follows suit, taking up a position around you.
Suddenly the ground down the street seemed to begin rumbling. In an instant the surface of the road rose up, changing form into humanoid figures, almost human, though skeletal in appearance. You could see what Astonage meant about clay. There were 5 of them. The one in the center dropped its jaw revealing a soft formless mouth. Razor sharp teeth formed as its jaw dropped even further down, fusing with its upper torso; it looked big enough to chew a man whole.
A) Urge them to try and escape B) Fight C) Let them fight while you escape D) Try to communicate with the "monsters"

"Do I not need a weapon as well?" You inquire, but it's too late, the attackers make the first move, dashing at your group at insane speeds. Astonage and Anke immediately begin firing on them, their rifles spitting out blue pellets that blanket the air ahead of you.
One of the aliens gets hit spot on by the hail of bullets while the others leap to the side. The creature seemed to be capable of tanking several hits, white energy appearing to deflect several bullets, but it only takes so much before its defense breaks, the creature being shredded to pieces.
"They've got shields!" Astonage announces
"So do we! Just keep shooting!" Your two escorts focus their fire on two separate individuals, and while Anke seems to hit one, tearing away its arm Astonage's attempt fails miserably. He seemed to be distracted by the fact that there were several of them charging in a tight formation.
Unsure of what to do you stand behind your allies as Astonage gets tackled by the fastest of them, being swept off of his feet away from you and Anke. Meanwhile Anke whips out a knife, slicing the injured attacker's arms away from its body and delivering a standing side kick to its partner.
With what little time she has she unarms and tosses you a sidearm, "You take the last one!"
Grabbing it out of the air you take a look at the sidearm, shortly before being tackled by the last alien, the one with the mile wide maw. It grabs you by the neck, lifts you off your feet and pulls you away from Anke by the meters. In the presence of a new feeling you drop the pistol; surprise.
"Yoooou~" It snarled.
"You can talk?"
"Yes~ Talk~ Your laaanguage~"
It smashes you into the paved ground and moves itself closer to you. Half expecting it to begin consuming you, you struggle. The close up view sure wasn't flattering. The creature didn't seem to have any visible eyes or nostrils or ears, just several slits across its face. Its jaw fused with its neck - no, rather its neck was just a part of its jaw along with its entire upper torso. The teeth protruding from it were set up in rows and razor sharp like sharks' teeth.
Surpisingly enough, it didn't begin eating you, rather it seemed to be observing, or rather scanning you up close.
"You~! You're not like them~!"
It seemed to back off from you, 4 slits opening to reveal several red beady balls aligned in each socket.
"Are those... your eyes?" You ask with mixed feelings.
The beads seemed to fuse together like drops of water, slowly the color began to change as the beads formed into a single sphere. The now singular eye turned white with a red pupil. Its jaw began to detract as well, all the way back to its reshaping head, the rows of teeth disappearing into a single set of human adult teeth. Next, a nose, proper lips, ears, the proper shape of a head, even a full head of black hair.
"W-what are you?"
"I could ask you the same thing", it spoke humanity's Universal perfectly. "What are you?"
"Hey clay face!" The now human alien looked up, only to get part of its face and torso blown away by bullets. It seemed to be hurt, rolling off of you and reshaping its body once more. With its canine like legs it leaped away, running.
Anke ran up to you, wiping away some material off of her shoulder and face. "What happened?"
"I-I got attacked! By a monster! That looked human!" You didn't even realize your own voice was frantic.
"You sound scared", She condescendingly remarks, giving you a smug smirk.
"Yea! Y-yea..." Huh, scared... So that's what that was, fear.
"Well...That's good. But you got beat by an alien."
"Yeah...I think...People normally would...Right?"
"Yeah", She simply answers before focusing behind you. "Astonage! Get your slow ass over here!"
Astonage was walking up behind you, cracking his neck from side to side. "I think that thing tried to assimilate me! Damn! Unbelievable! I mean"
"Did you kill it?"
"It even took the form of a babe when I had it pinned! Totally f-"
"Hey dumbass! I asked you if you killed it!"
"Oh...well...About that..."
"Oh god", Anke smacked her face, "You let it get away. You always fall for it, it's like they know your weakness."
"Hey, it's the weakness of every man!"
"Why couldn't you be gay? It would make my life so much easier!" With a snear she smacks his forehead and begins walking.
"About those aliens", You start, "How did it do that? It looked perfectly human and spoke our language perfectly."
"You underestimate them", Anke remarks, "They can become nearly perfectly human inside and out, not just appearances."
"Please explain."
"They can can speak, eat, sleep, bleed, use the bathroom"
"Have sex", Astonage crudely adds.
Anke shoots him a quick glare for his comment before finishing, "The whole...shebang, in a manner of speaking."
Impressive, that could mean they had already infiltrated humanity's leaders or something. "How can you tell them apart?"
"From humans? Real humans? Normally our scanners are able to tell the difference, there are a few differences."
"Normally?"
"Well..." She was rolling her eyes, "There are a few that are pretty much nearly undetectable, it's led to some paranoia when we caught the first few. The first few were luck."
"Yea, Anke thought i was one for a while. I think it's because she thought I was trying to 'assimilate' her. Anke's kinda crazy, honestly." You could hear her growl quietly.
"What about now? Do you still rely on luck to catch these ones?"
"Right now...We actually have a few of them on our side, not everyone's keen about that but what're you gonna do? We provide them with identity protection from the general public, they give us info, everything works out fine."
"As long as they stay on our radar", Astonage adds. He seemed to have a habit of interrupting.
"Why would they cooperate though? Or rather, why would they want to live with humans?"
"You'd have to ask them, some of them want in on the tech or culture, some are just nice or some bullshit like that, and some...some do it for~, love." Anke said to say the word "love" oddly, almost hesitantly.
"Man, have you ever seen a hybrid kid? They're totally na-" Before Astonage could finish Anke shut him up with a glare.
"I have! And he was beautiful, looked perfectly fine! Just shut up Astonage."
"What about me?" You abruptly ask.
"What? What about you?" Anke asks, sounding irritated now.
"That thing, it said I was different from you. I guess."
They kept quiet, the both of them. Astonage only gave a nervous glance to Anke.
"I'm not human, right?" You had a weird feeling since the beginning.
"You're human, you are!" Anke assured.
"But I"
"You're human enough to join the UA military!" She added quickly.
"But-"
"But nothing. It's just that you're...A cyborg!"
"Oh..." Maybe that was sensible, but what about your memories? "So you're drafting me into the military?"
"That or we kill you or something. Is that a problem?" She stopped to turn, standing just in front of what was likely their space ship. Giving you a smile and a raised brow she asks, "So?"
A) Agree to join her B) Refuse C) Refuse and try to escape D) Refuse and attack them

"N-no, I'll join."
"Good!" She shot you a pompous grin, like declaring her swift victory. Astonage on the other hand...He looked worried, which was worrisome to you.
---
On the ship the two of them were having a private discussion on the bridge, having left you alone in a spare quarter. You could Anke really shout him down at some points, her temper, and her hair, reminded you of fire fittingly enough. Astonage advised you to rest but it seemed impossible; they were terribly loud, and you weren't very tired at all... Nonetheless, you decided to take the advice.
--
Present day
"Shit", you mutter. Looks like 19 was it, it wasn't getting any better. You never noticed what the counter said before but maybe it was 19 to begin with. Well, that was that. It was already well into the evening by now...There was always police chatter on that radio of yours, another rogue machine it sounded like. Humanoid this time.
"Chrrtzz...Looks like...the Broken Phantom..."
...You let out a tired sigh. Probably just a mistake, though it might be worth checking out. Then again, Ann might need someone to get her home, the city got dangerous at night...Not to say she couldn't handle herself.
Time to
A) Relax/rest (back in time again) B) Go to Ann's C) Go check out the police call

Go to Ann's, you decide.
Putting your life support armor back on you climb out of your underground bunker and get back on your boat, heading for the city once more.
Somehow you made better time getting back, calmer seas, better skies, made for good sailing. Casually strolling through the streets it seemed there was something going on on a major road road just nearby, people cheering madly. Some sort of night time parade, was today something special?
You push through the gathering crowd and take a moment to watch as a few hovering floats make their way slowly down the street. The large platforms were adorned with a plethora of lights, coloring the night clouds with their rainbow colors, behind them was a line of military vehicles, tanks, armored carriers, artillery platforms, everything. Signs held by the joyous bystanders read "Welcome Home!" and so forth. Ah, so the state's soldiers were back from warring with the Lancost empire. Well, that was good. Quietly you remove yourself from the crowd and make your way to Ann's again, maybe she would like to see the parade, join in the festivities or something. To your knowledge she didn't have any close friends who had gone to war but maybe it would be fun anyway.
Peering through the window you could see Ann packing up materials on the counter. You walk in as she disrobes her meat apron and hangs it up. "Oh, Deneb, didn't think you'd be coming tonight."
"Oh? Why's that?"
"Well you weren't picking up calls y'know?"
"Well, did you know that the troops are back? They're having a parade right now."
"In the middle of the night!?" She grabbed her coat, tossing it on with all due haste. "Let's go!" Before you could even respond she was out the door. Following shortly after she locked the door and led the way.
"So what's the rush? I thought you didn't know anyone in the military?"
"Uh, yeah I do!" She scoffs, "Deckard, you don't remember Deckard?"
"Deckard..." That didn't seem to really ring a bell...
"No? I thought you two met, he was one of my best customers! He's a good friend! Come on!"
She takes your hand and tugs, pulling you even faster.
Finally at the parade she aggressively pushes her way to the front and begins waving and shouting at the troops.
In the sky above fireworks went off, lighting up the darkness and breaking up the clouds.
---
A few hours in most of the troops seemed to have already passed, and most of the crowd dispersed or moved up the street to follow the parade. And it looked like storm clouds were reforming, probably a result of the earlier weather and heat from the fireworks. But Ann seemed to linger at the scene, keeping a keen eye on the street, expecting more people to arrive. You tap Ann, "I don't think there's anyone left..."
"Shush you! Don't be such a downer." Her voice seemed to tremble a bit. Maybe her friend had died?
"It looks like it's going to start raining again."
"Just...wait."
"Ann...We should g-"
"Deneb if you want just go home first!" She began to raise her voice. "Or just please shut up!"
"..."
A) Wait with her B) Go home first C) Urge her to go home D) Tell her to go home while you stay and keep an eye out

You decide it would be best to stick with her. There didn't seem to be any cover nearby when it started drizzling. The clouds above had reformed and slowly the rain worsened, eventually coming down to a downpour. Most people left at the first sight of rain but Ann seemed intent on sticking around.
Admittedly, you didn't know this close friend of hers, but you'd be damned if you left her alone out here.
Finally she lets out a heavy sigh, drenched. "I guess..."
You spot someone coming down the street, picking up trash into a bag. "That's not him right?"
"..." She looked up and squinted her eyes at him, trying to focus on him. She suddenly turns back to you with the grimmest expression you had ever seen.
"So..." The man was wearing a well fashioned trench coat, very decorative like a uniform. It was white and navy blue with black trimming with a color matched military cap. You could tell through the rain, he had a mostly effeminate face, round oval eyes, picturesque actually, not like a soldier.
"Yea..." She whispers to you dejectedly before turning to him and waving vigorously. "Deck! Deckard!?"
He immediately spots her and runs up, holding aside his trash bag and stick. "Ann?"
"Yea! Welcome back!" She moves in to hug him, a gesture he returns with a pat, but she really holds him down. "You're alive!"
"Y-yeah...Why would I not be alive?"
"I mean, I thought you died! You weren't there with the rest of the soldiers!" She was shouting, she always did when she was excited.
"Haha, no. As you can see I'm in one piece." He suddenly offers his hand to you, "Ah, Deneb right? It's been a while."
"Yea", you awkwardly shake his hand. You sort of recognized him, not very well though.
"So Deckard, why are you collecting trash? Don't tell me you're..."
"What?"
"I don't know...Like a private or whatever they call it, corporal?"
"Oh, no, no! I'm actually a captain."
"WOW!" She gives him another quick hug. "That's great!"
"Yea, yea, I have an airship and everything! Hahaha!" He rubs the back of his head, almost tipping off his hat.
"Hey, why don't we get out of the rain?", you suggest.
"Oh, you should come over!" Eh...
A) Let them do what they want B) Intervene and suggest going to a restaurant C) Go over as well, to keep an eye on things

Silently you tag along all the way back to Ann's flat, shaking off the water at the door.
"Deckard, would you like anything? Coffee maybe?"
"Do you happen to have decaf?"
"Sure, sure."
Gesturing to you Deckard asks, "What about you Deneb?"
"I-"
"He doesn't drink anything. Or eat anything..."
"I'm not sure I understand..."
"He just doesn't eat, ever."
You give a nod in response.
"But then how do you..."
"It's a secret, let's leave it at that", you quickly add.
You mostly sit around as the odd wheel as they chat it up. Things about how the war was like, the state of the city, the shop, etc. Through it all it was still raining non-stop.
Finally, well into the morning Deckard stands up, "Well, I think it's about time I headed home, it'll be nice to see the old place again. Would you mind lending me an umbrella Ann?"
"Hey, you could stay here tonight, there's a spare room."
"That's very thoughtful, but-"
"Really, it'll be fine, no trouble for me."
A) Support Ann's offer B) Support Deckard's leaving
1) Stick around yourself 2) Head home as well
