Sliding backwards against the concrete, the figure finds their balance and faces their opponent once more. Her blood red eyes look over them hungrily, blonde hair swirling around her as she saunters forward. A smile crosses her lips as she advances, the person taking a loose stance as she drags her sword along the ground beside her.
The sky is bright and blue above them as they stare into each other's eyes.
"I'm amazed, you know?"
"Amazed?" the person asks.
"Yeah...I've taken a liking to you, somehow."
They chuckle. "A liking, huh. Well, this is a crazy way of showing how much you like me."
"Hm. If I wanted you dead, --- , you would be dead."
They can't deny that. She's been toying with them the entire time, waiting until she got bored before rendering them helpless and sating her hunger with their blood. Figures that she had to be a crazy good weapon user and a vampire.
"So...Hannah, is it? Let's get things cleared up. Why haven't you just killed me yet? What's the deal?"
"I just want to test your strength, that's all. For my Mistress. She's taken a very deep interest in you, you know."
"Who...is she? Why me?"
Hannah laughs. "You'll see soon enough, if you can survive."
The person growls and brings a blade of lightning energy into their left hand.
"If you want it that way...then come at me!"
"Haha, yes! That's the spirit!"
She rushes at a speed they barely can comprehend, but they can feel that the moment to strike is coming soon.
The girl's in their face, swinging her large double-edged sword at the person's head. Their left hand goes up in a blur, the blade of lightning aimed at her face.
And all at once...
---
"...? Wake up."
"Hm?"
"It's time to go. There's a village close by, right?"
Groggily, you rub your eyes and look up at your friend, Cadence. She smiles and helps you to your feet.
"It was a long night, wasn't it?"
"I suppose," she says softly. "You said there was a village nearby, right?"
"Yeah...it's a shinobi village, though. You sure you want to go?"
"It's way better than nothing."
"You might be right about that, Cadence."
"Let's get going, then."
She's anxious, which is understandable. Your parents knew how to rough it in the woods and so did you. But she was...a bit sheltered, to say the least.
She wasn't naive or whiny, however. Cadence was tough in her own rights and knew how to take care of herself better than most girls in her circle. While the upper-crust would have complained about spending a week in the same clothing (you'd washed up by the river two days ago at least), Cadence would shrug it off and carry a smile along the entire way. Her skirt and blouse were beat up, but then again so were your clothes.
"There's some activity nearby. Think we should head there?"
"Sounds like a plan."
Cadence nods and smiles, her blonde hair floating in the breeze as she runs ahead. You follow, taking in the sights on the way to your first destination. It had been a week since Kennedy Port had been wiped off the map...your hometown and everything you knew was gone.
You didn't know why, or how, but one day you'd find out. For now, it was time to get organized.

Gender: Female Age: 13 Hair: Red, waist length
Eyes: Green
Body Type: Average Height: 5'3" (not a clue if that's abnormal) Weight: 80 lbs (see height) Skin Tone: light
Your starting village is: Sunagakure
As for the narrative, I take it the first half was third person and the second half second person? If so, then please write it in second person.

@yushi: 5' 10" and 125 lbs could work. Our MC would be slightly underweight, which is fine since we've already specified that she's not rail-thin. If this is disputable for anyone I'll take suggestions.
We start in Sunagakure for now. Sticking to 2nd person.

Hmm, I'll change these and leave the rest the same:
Age: 15 Hair: Blond, short
Eyes: Ocean blue
Weight: 115 lbs
So that'll lock in age, hair, and eyes. Averaging out height and weight will give 5'10" and 125 lbs.

"The Village Hidden in the Sand," you mutter. "Well, it's a start."
Walking down the main road, you wipe sweat from your brow as you pass by the crudely built houses and the street vendors peddling their wares. It looked like everyone around was struggling...you didn't know all that much about world affairs, but apparently Sunagakure was having trouble with finances and the like.
Well, you'd probably be a big enough boost to their economy as it was. The one thing you seemed to have enough of was money, and enough skills to pick up more doing the occasional odd job. From what you could see, this village was ripe for quality discount work. Or free work if they couldn't afford it. You had to have a heart sometimes, right?
"This place doesn't look so hot..."
"Yeah, something like that," you say to Cadence. "But it definitely feels it."
"That's for sure. Let's find an inn and get ourselves set up for a while."
"Wait, you wanna get some new clothes first?"
"Oh, yeah. Sure, we could do that."
After picking up some generic, yet desert-approved clothing, you head down towards the nearest inn with Cadence.
She stops in her tracks, and you notice that she's shivering badly for some reason...
"Cadence? What's the matter?"
"I-I d-d-don't know..."
"Hey, you need to breathe. Seriously...what's..."
You can feel it as you step closer. Something...very sinister. Almost like...almost like...
The day my home was torn apart...
Had to be murderous intent.
There's someone standing down the road from you, a kid near your age with red hair and a large gourd on his back.
You then notice that there are bodies on the road nearby. Blood seemingly evaporated in the heat, but then you see that wisps of sand are coming off of them and going into the gourd he carries.
Well, shit.
First few hours and you run into a psycho.
"I had a feeling...knew we shouldn't have come into a shinobi village. Knew it! Should have followed my instincts, but nope..."
"Are you...afraid of me?"
Great, he has a creepy voice, too.
"Uh...you're scaring my friend a little, yeah. I mean...look, we might be bothering you, so..."
"I didn't say you could leave, girl."
Well, isn't that an interesting statement?
Just what do you say to that, huh?
---
Response - primarily defines your personality, you can pick more than one if you so choose. Specify the dominant choice if you do that, though.
a) Rude/brash b) Stiff c) Quiet d) Cold/biting e) Monotonic/robotic f) Cheerful/pleasant g) Plain/affirmative h) Hotblooded g) "Meh." i) Other not listed.
You will proceed to:
1. Run away. Fast. 2. Stand your ground. 3. Diplomacy. 4. Other. ---
Combat Style
- basically choosing a combat style or two. If you pick one, that'll be your go to. If you pick two, you'll have a primary and a secondary, which of course will be weaker.
- possibilities are many. This is just your basic combat style which guides the rest of your technique. The way you fight will have an effect on how you shape your attacks and defenses, and build new techniques. Simply put, you'll evolve in one direction or another. Doesn't even have to be eastern or old-time, you can pick something like Jeet Kune Do as an example of style (though that in itself isn't really...yeah...it's complicated, that one) or Sambo or Capoiera, whatever. Your style could be just pure speed or jumping really high or analyzing the weaknesses in structures.
- for now you can have up to three styles. Prowess will be distributed depending on the number.
Style 1 Style 2 (if needed) Style 3 (if needed)
---
Combat Focus
- basically what type of things you use to fight. Choose from ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu for now. All of those have subsets, but they're locked until we get a bit further into the story.
- improving the main focus will improve all subsets equally. Improving a subset will enable you to become better with it. Taijutsu for example has kenjutsu as a subset. You can either improve taijutsu all around or improve kenjutsu specifically, giving you better prowess with swords and other bladed weapons.
- doesn't end there. You can have two combat focuses, like ninjutsu and genjutsu, "equipped" at the same time. I'll get into that later and I think I'll have a tree/list at some point of the combat focuses and their subsets.
Focus 1 Focus 2
---
Statistics
- oh boy everyone's favorite part
- except mine apparently
Statistics (ten point scale)
Ninjutsu: Taijutsu: Genjutsu: Intelligence: Strength: Speed: Stamina: Seals:
30 points to distribute.

Elements are next update or something. I need to think about those. And if something doesn't make sense let me know.

"I don't think I need your permission to leave, boy."
You didn't like this kid's attitude at all. No way were you letting him off, not after that insult.
"Fool...I'll put you out of your misery!"
You put yourself in front of Cadence as a wave of sand rushes along the already dusty streets.
"Bad, bad, bad..."
However, before you can make your first seal, a gust of wind blows the sand off course. It returns slowly to the boy's gourd, and he looks up towards one of the rooftops.
"You..."
"We don't have time for this, Gaara. If you kill foreigners without reason, it'll reflect badly on the Kazekage."
"..."
He stares you down again. "Next time...you're mine."
Gaara walks away as a girl with a large fan hops down from the nearby rooftop.
"That's Gaara. He's crazy, and you're damn lucky I came around when I did. Mess with him like that again and you won't be so lucky," she says coldly.
"T-thank you," Cadence says gratefully.
"Yeah, thanks," you echo less sincerely.
"You two aren't from around here, I suppose."
"No," you say. "We're just figuring out where to go for now. We were about to head for the inn when your-"
"Brother."
"...brother Gaara showed up."
The blonde girl runs a hand through her hair. "I guess it's not really your fault, then. It would help if you weren't such a bitch, though."
"Thanks for the tip," you say with sarcasm.
"Ah...don't take it personally," Cadence says on your behalf. "She's a bit...cool, if I had to say. She's really nice to her friends, though."
"Yeah. Explains why you'd stick around her," Temari remarks. You roll your eyes and let the comment slide. "You sure you're just civilians?"
Obviously, she saw that you were attempting to make hand seals before she stepped in.
"I know a few ninja arts," you reply. "Just basic stuff, though."
"Yeah? Hm..." She puts a hand under her chin, thinking. "That's interesting. Well, I'll see you around, then."
"Probably."
"Temari," she says while extending a hand.
You nod and take it firmly. "Nice to meet you. I'm..."
---
After giving Temari your name you will:
a) Go to the inn and rest b) Explore the village a little bit c) Other
---
Name
- not much to explain. You can go by whatever. One name, two, three, alternate names, nickname. All that fun stuff.
--
Element
- you get to pick from one to three of the five basic elements. The plan is that you can either stick with one and master it to a high degree, or have up to three and master those, but to a lower degree overall. Having one element as a focus can have its benefits once you train it up enough, same for multiple ones but to a lesser degree.
- your fighting style will have an effect on how you can and will use your elemental jutsu. Ranged styles will make the elements look different than close combat styles.
Element 1 Element 2 (optional) Element 3 (optional)
---
Ability
- there will be a feature that allows the MC to use opponents' abilities in battle once they've been defeated, to a specified extent. Basically Megaman style, really. There are three types of this feature:
Variable Weapons - allows the MC to use the opponent's ability as intended for a limited amount of attacks. That limit can be raised and consumption of the 'Special Weapon' energy can be cut down or even eliminated in certain conditions later on. While using the Special Weapon your other techniques are temporarily disabled.
Bonus: +1 ninjutsu, +1 seals, +1 wildcard
Learning System/Command Arts - allows the MC to learn techniques derived from the opponent's ability yet based on their own skill set. Unlike Variable Weapons which strictly recreates the captured ability, these Command Arts allow one to combine an already learned maneuver with the ability gained from an opponent. Your other techniques are still active during this time. The learning curve for Command Arts is steeper, though the uses of them are unlimited.
Bonus: +1 intelligence, +1 seals, +1 wildcard
Get Ability - allows the MC to directly absorb the 'essence' of opponents' techniques. They will have access to every one of the opponents moves if this is used after defeating them. These moves can also be completely modified in any way seen fit, allowing for endless customization. However, this is the highest risk feature as there are opponents whose 'will' can overwhelm the MC and change their personality completely, if not drive them to a point of insanity for a brief period. It has the steepest learning curve and techniques can easily backfire if one isn't careful. The uses are infinite as per your energy requirements.
Bonus: +5 wildcard
---
Jutsu
- choose any three jutsu, either elemental in line with your chosen element or non-elemental, or a mix of both. Those will be your starting and only jutsu until otherwise noted.
Jutsu 1 Jutsu 2 Jutsu 3

What do you mean by wildcard? Is it a separate stat of some sort, stat points randomly assigned, stat points to be freely allocated, or something else?
For the jutsu, are there any constraints on what we can choose, such as rank? Also, just to make sure, if we don't choose a basic jutsu, such as kai or substitution, we won't have it until we get a chance to train for it, correct?

Speaking of that you might get one or two additional stats that have their own self-contained points and don't directly affect your abilities and etc. I'll introduce them depending on what we pick for ability. Yeah, you don't have certain things like kai or substitution jutsu until you get to learn them. What's in your regular arsenal will be updated as you go on with the story.

They only make a big difference in training if you have copious amounts of chakra, which we currently lack. Perhaps down the line we may be able to make use of them, but at present they wouldn't have a significant impact. As for battle, our available techs are currently too limited, I'd rather have another offensive choice rather than a support tech at this point.

We could easily become broken and all around 10s with shadow clones.
