Just what we need around here, another CYOA. Haha. Well... Here's my attempt. This won't be the "end-all be-all". Actually, this is my start at trying to write. I can't guarantee that I'll update daily, because of my indecisiveness, laziness, or other things.
As far as the setting is concerned, I'm going with a medieval / middle ages time period of sorts. It'll be based more-or-less on characters, locations, and themes from "the Witcher" video game, and subsequently the book. If you've never heard of it, here's the wiki:
witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Witcher_Wiki
But it'll probably have other influences from other universes as well... Probably Final Fantasy, Naruto, Berserk (the anime), etc. To also note: I'm no expert on any of these topics, including "the Witcher". I just want to write. Therefore, it is important for you to explain "why" you voted the way you did, for other voters as well as for me. It'll help me develop my story and research topics better.
Because I am a beginner and because many of you are avid readers and writers as well, if any of you want to critique or comment on my writing - the topic, themes, setting, choices, development, or any other aspects you deem important, PLEASE, post it with your vote, send me a message, or talk to me in the chatbox. I value each and every one of your opinions.
NOTE: This should probably go without saying, but these beginning choices are important. They determine where I go with the storyline like: what age the MC is, people he knows and the relationships he has with them, the position of the timeline he's in (not that I really have one), his socio-economic status, marital status, what skills he'll develop, and subsequently, plot (since I still don't have that planned out too much yet either...). And yes, the MC is a male, human character.
Anyway, here's my CYOA:
---
Darkness...
Complete and utter darkness...
With no light, there was no definite way to tell how long you'd been here. You'd been using a small, dull stone you stepped on and grinding it against a wall near the shoddy cot you'd been provided with to sleep on to gauge some principle of time. Your hands felt the grooves in wall - two and a half weeks - though it felt unbelievably longer.
On the adjacent corner, no more than 6-7 ft, you speculated, was a slight circular decline centered around a two-inch, sticky and gooey hole. The smell emanating from the hole was terrible, and filled the room with a nearly tear-inducing stench. There was no "getting used to it." And despite the smell, "you gotta do what you gotta do."
On the opposite side of the room, across the rough stone floor was a solid metal frame surrounding an equally hard iron barrier, which you assumed was a one-way door. At a random time of your self-calculated day, there was a bowl of cold and rotten soup with small stale roll of bread. You had no idea when it got there or how it materialized through the door. But you were content enough that you got to eat anything at all.
Your clothes... A wool tunic. It was uncomfortable, and felt odd. The fibers of the cloth prodded your skin as if you were lying in a bed of needles. You'd rather just take it off. Unfortunately, it was a one-piece tunic, and this room was freezing.
Despite these "hassles," you had plenty of time to reflect. To think. To pray.
You knew that your mind, as well as your body, had become weak in these conditions. Your boredom was overwhelming, to say the least. But in a deeper aspect, a depression crept over you, as it had for a long while. You wished for comfort. But there was no one here. Your thoughts did you no justice either. You also knew that it was unwise to continue this line of thinking because it always lead to questioning the decisions and events of the past. What if you were wrong about everything?
You wished it was a bad dream...
You hoped that you'd just...
"WAKE UP!"
That voice... So familiar... Who is it again?
A. Your wife.
B. Your master.
1. Male
2. Female
C. Your childhood friend.
