We will start with the main character of my CYOA, Doukaku. Doukaku's Character Theme: Ace Combat 5 Soundtrack - Front Line.It was difficult finding a song that held the determination and drive of a main character without going all balls out (because Doukaku is a fairly restrained person). I think this one works nicely for him, as it keeps building throughout the song. Doukaku's Battle Theme: Super Smash Brothers Brawl Soundtrack - White Land. The time for going balls out is in a fight, and F-Zero always has driving pieces. By the time the CYOA rolled around, I had pretty much used up all of the Guilty Gear and Blazblue tracks, so I had to look to other video games for fighting songs. This is rather uplifting for a battle song, but I think it fits Doukaku's inner rush during fights.

Next up is Doukaku's bro, Omoi. Omoi's Character Theme: Nujabes - 1st Samurai.Nujabes is the master of making chill beats, may he rest in peace. Omoi's a really laid back fellow, which is reflected in the nature of this song, but it's not completely leisurely, either. Omoi's Battle Theme: Guilty Gear XX Korean Soundtrack - Run Till Tomorrow. This originally belonged to Darui (I think maybe the Raikage had it before him) before I found something way better. It kind of fell into Omoi's lap for whatever reason. This is actually an ending song (because I had used up everything else at this point), but it sounds a lot like a normal fighting song. It has the right mix of heaviness and melody, but then again, so do a lot of Daisuke Ishiwatari songs.

The senior adviser on Bee's team, Samui. Samui's Character Theme: Dave Brubeck Quartet - Take Five.I picked out these themes fairly early on in the CYOA, before Samui really had any development. What we knew from the manga was that she was "cool," so what better to represent that feeling other than cool jazz? By the way, Dave Brubeck is awesome. Samui's Battle Theme: Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne Soundtrack - Normal Battle ~Town~.This battle theme holds that laid back "cool" attitude, while also possessing the needed drive for a battle song. There is a section near the middle that gets pretty dark. I think it reflects Samui's troubled past nicely. That probably wasn't the intention at first, but many happy accidents like these happen to me when I construct characters and such.

Time for the main teacher, that crazy creature, you see, the one, the only, the great Killer Bee! Killer Bee's Character Theme: Persona Live Band - Soul Drive.I was really pleased when I acquired this album and found this little gem on it. The original sounds nothing like this and, to be honest, pretty bad. But this live version has a really nice jazzy feel to it. It has an uplifting feel, a nice groove, and rapped lyrics. That made it perfect for Killer Bee. Killer Bee's battle theme: Guilty Gear XX Korean Soundtrack - Faith Shall Save Thee.Either there aren't many aggressive hip hop songs, or I don't have a lot of hip hop in general. So instead Bee gets this funky tune. I would have preferred something hippity and hoppity, but this is adequate. And when he fights with the Eight-Tails' power: Star Ocean 3 Soundtrack - Bitter Dance. The sound directors for Star Ocean 3 must have loved this song, because they played it for the most inappropriate boss battles, and rather frequently, too. This was probably the first song with rapped lyrics that I liked (since I've had this game/soundtrack for quite a while), despite the immense cheesiness of everything. Bee's pretty cheesy, which is reflected in the funky dance music and the lyrics, but then there are darker segments in the song that show that, yes, the silly rapping man in front of you can fuck you up.

And now let's go through the other three genin teams. G's Character Theme: Some Japanese folk song - Hana. There's not a lot to this one. I needed something that used the instrument that G uses, and this was the first youtube result for kokyu. G's Battle Theme: Beatmania IIDX 12 Soundtrack - Mei.Unfortunately, none of my music seems to feature the kokyu in some way, so I had to find alternatives. I eventually settled on this song, which possesses the right amount of chill and the right amount of drive in its beats. Beatmania songs are criminally short, but I suppose its an act of mercy on the fingers of the players.

Akarui's Character Theme: Beatmania IIDX 15 Soundtrack - Time to Air.I first heard this song youtube pooped to Jack Black appearing on Sesame Street <_<. I think it sounds better that way, and I don't think the chipmunky voice is necessary in this song, but it contains that cheery feeling suitable for Akarui. Akarui's Battle Theme: Beatmania IIDX 12 Soundtrack - Aurora.Akarui's really peppy and spirited, so I wanted to find some "bouncy" electronic songs. Beatmania has a few of those if you sort through the obnoxious j-pop stuff. This one fits her cheeriness quite well.

C's Character Theme: Beatmania IIDX 12 Soundtrack - Votum Stellarum. To be honest, I was having trouble with some of these characters. I didn't really have anything for C, so I just kind of filled in the blanks with something. This isn't a bad song, though. C's Battle Theme: Digital Devil Saga 2 Soundtrack - Big Battle.Well, I gave him an electronic normal theme, so I guess I had to continue the theme. I dunno, he seems like such a basic dude so it was hard trying to find fitting things.

Yugito's Character Theme: Intestine Baalism - Burn Thou in Effigy.Don't let the cover scare you-- this is a soft acoustic interlude that starts melancholy and ends up happier sounding as it goes on. Just a short and sweet theme. Yugito's Battle Theme: Sound Factory Carolina - Sacred Philosophy. There was some guy on youtube that put up a fan soundtrack for his imagined Blazblue sequel. The songs were pretty rad, but then a few of them were revealed to be stolen, putting everything else in doubt. This was one of the stolen ones. This has a nice Symphony X feel to it, but I don't think anyone else here's a metalhead that would know what I'm talking about <_< Yugito when she's using the Two-Tails' power: Digital Devil Saga 2 Soundtrack - Hunting - Betrayal. This is a normal battle theme in the game it comes from, but Shoji Meguro is really good at making those, so I don't feel bad giving it to Yugito. Besides, there was little else to pick from at this time.

D's Character Theme: Army of the Pharaohs - Battle Cry.Good hip hop does exist, you know. I don't know if the lyrics fit D (I feel they don't), but the beat and such works. I dunno, I just yanked something from one of the hip hop albums I had for this kid. D's Battle Theme: Persona 3 Soundtrack - Mass Destruction.Again, I don't know if there's aggressive hip hop <_<. Everything I have is pretty laid back. So I defaulted to this because it was the only other video game fight song featuring rapped lyrics that I could think of. I was not inspired when thinking of songs for D >_>

Karui's Character Theme: An Endless Sporadic - Impulse.I dunno, I was searching for something and came across this band. This song was pretty fun to play in guitar hero 3, and it's rather nice. Karui needed something, so she gets it. Karui's Battle Theme: Baten Kaitos Soundtrack - Glowing Cloud.Same situation as above, but a boss theme from an rpg instead of a guitar hero song.

Darui's Character Theme: Nujabes - Aruarian Dance.More Nujabes for more chill dudes. While Omoi's had some energy behind it, this one is really soft for the most part. I guess you can feel some loyalty behind this one. Like, the softness is in a caring tone or something. Yeah. Darui's Battle Theme: Baten Kaitos Soundtrack - Vtrolic a StrokeIf my memory is correct, this rockin' tune only played for the first boss in this game, which is a real waste of a song <_<. Darui's badass, so he gets real good songs.

Kurai's Character Theme: Beatmania IIDX 15 Soundtrack - Mendes.More Beatmania because I don't know what the hell to give these other kids. Kurai may not seem deserving of such sinister themes, but he will become antagonistic towards the others at some point, specifically Doukaku. He's pretty douchey and causes conflicts that way. Besides, this song is bitchin'. Kurai's Battle Theme: Beatmania IIDX 12 Soundtrack - Agnus Dei.More sinister songs to reflect his dickish nature. This one sounds like it'd feel like home in a Castlevania game, and that's good because those soundtracks are awesome.

Yan's Theme: Some Chinese folk song - The Far Away Place.I didn't think it was on youtube, but it appears that it's a folk song and not just something Lei Qiang did. Then again, he had a lot of folk songs on his albums <_<. Anyways, China music for Chinese kid. Yan's Battle Theme: Guilty Gear XX Korean Soundtrack - Sticks and Stones. With the new Blazblue giving me new themes, this song (formerly Kurotsuchi's battle theme) can now find a more fitting home with its Chinese style. Perhaps it's a bit too peppy for a quiet a shy kid like Yan, but his character really hasn't developed much yet. Perhaps that will change (as of this writing, the diplomatic mission with the Rock has just begun in the CYOA).

Zhale's Character Theme: Fire Emblem Path of Radiance Soundtrack - Power-Hungry Fool.Pretty tasty harpsichord stuff. The baroque feel really complements Zhale's egotistical, arrogant nature. Zhale's Battle Theme: Lord of Vermilion 2 Soundtrack - The Temple at the End of This World.Lord of Vermilion is an obscure game which I fell back to when I needed themes for minorish characters. I exhausted the first game's soundtrack, and the sequel wasn't done by Nobuo Uematsu, so it's inferior. There are a few good songs present, this being one of them. It's rhythm is pretty vicious, but it has a nice orchestral flair with the melody being violins and then the female voice part. Using actual instruments instead of synth would be better, but this works well for Zhale's hubris-filled self.

Temporary teammate of Doukaku and Omoi, Kurotsuchi. Kurotsuchi's Character Theme: Super Street Fighter IV Soundtrack - Theme of Sakura. This is a pretty joyful and uplifting theme. It's pretty relaxing and is at odds with Kurotsuchi's fiery self, but I think this works well to show her inner nature. Kurotsuchi's Battle Theme: Blazblue Soundtrack - Dancing God.New Blazblue songs are starting to arrive. Kurotsuchi formerly had what is now Yan's battle theme, which I feel did not hit her at all. Right off the bat this is more culturally correct because of the Japanese folk intro. This is a very cheerful and graceful song, which fits her very well. It's odd how the folk interlude with a darker segment right after doesn't fit with the song, yet it somehow flows well. Daisuke's a beast, man.

A's Character Theme: Ys Origin Super Arrange - My Lord, Our Brave. This was originally a Brocas Helm song. It worked for a heavy metal feel, but the lyrics made A sound a little insane. I've finally gotten around to listening to some Ys stuff after years of not doing so. This has some shreddiness, but also a regal kind of feel fitting for Raikage. A's Battle Theme: Sound Factory Carolina - Powerfield.Another song that one Blazblue fan soundtrack guy stole. The title he used for it (World's Strongest) made it feel suitable for A.

Let's do Akatsuki now, with their order of (battle) appearance in my CYOA. Atama's a loser and doesn't have themes. Sasori's Theme: Kokuyasou - Master of Puppet. This was originally Master of Puppets, but I don't really like Metallica or that song. It was a placeholder until I found a suitable puppet-themed replacement. Both he and Alice use puppets and are dicks, so it all works out. Kokuyasou's cover adds that symphonic flair to what would be a normal metal cover, making Sasori seem more douchey. Classical music seems to do that. Sasori's Battle Theme (in Hiruko): Guilty Gear XX Korean Soundtrack - Take the Pain. This was originally his only battle theme. It's pretty underwhelming and repetitive, so it's a good thing Akatsuki get multiple battle themes. This works well for fighting just a puppet. Sasori's Battle Theme (true form): Lord of Vermilion 2 Soundtrack - Eternal Garden. And then you crack open Hiruko and this would start. The choir adds maximum douchiness. The melodic part in the middle is pretty unusual, but it still fits. Dat bass. And then it goes back to symphonic stuff. Yeah.

Zetsu's Character Theme: Quest for Blood - Purpuke.Quest for Blood is so fucking weird, but so fucking good. Who would have thought having the flute be the main instrument in metal would work. And then that delicious break at 1:06 that leads to a really wicked sounding part. This works really well for a freaky plant dude. Zetsu's Battle Theme (Black Zetsu): Blazblue Soundtrack - Thin Red Line. This was mainly chosen based on the character that this theme belongs to. Arakune is a weird blobby thing that does a lot of weird blobby shit. Zetsu's a werid plant man that does a lot of weird plant shit. It's a match made in heaven. Now that there's a second version and that can be applicable, Black Zetsu gets this one because of the creepy intro. Zetsu's Battle Theme (White Zetsu): Blazblue Soundtrack - Thin Red Line II.White Zetsu gets this version of the theme because this one is less creepy and more in your face.

Itachi's Character Theme: Kingdom Hearts II Soundtrack - Darkness of the Unknown.I feel this one really fits him a lot. It has a lofty, mysterious feel throughout all three movements as it shifts about from calming to fierce to calming again, but in a remorseful way. Perfect for the resident schizophrenic man with the stupid plan. Itachi's Battle Theme: Guilty Gear XX Soundtrack - Good Manners and Customs.I always keep thinking this song isn't suitable for him and then I listen to it and its fine. By the time I found a more suitable song (the one below), there was nobody to dump this song onto. So I kept it, because it has good guy sound qualities hidden within dark ones or something. Itachi's Battle Theme (fighting for the kill): Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn Soundtrack - Wheeling Corby.Corby is a old Scottish word for a crow. Itachi is crows. Yeah, I've been playing Fire Emblem recently and came across this song. It's really nice and, again, has that mysterious lofty feel throughout, but this has more vigorous sections. It's also great in that it's only around forty seconds long before it loops. That's all Itachi needs <_<

Kisame's Character Theme: Quo Vadis - Hunter/Killer.I think this fits sharky pretty well. The Monster of the Mist obviously needed some kind of death metal, but while Kisame is vicious in battle, he's also a polite fellow and loyal and such. So I gave him something very melodic. Kisame's Battle Theme: Guilty Gear XX Korean Soundtrack - Megatona Furioso.Again the video game music only for battles has left the normal theme being heavier. This feels really laid back and groovy for the battle crazy Kisame, but I think it fits for some reason. Maybe the juxtaposition between rage and cool and collected or something. Kisame's Battle Theme (Fight to Kill): Kekal - Subsession II.With a bit of editing to the themes, I realized that having such a mellow theme for Kisame fighting all the time (barring his other form) really bothered me. Not sure what to use, I picked this. Yeah, it's not from a video game, but it certainly sounds it. This too has a juxtaposition between rage and cool and collected, but it's all within the song instead of one being the character and the other being the song. Which makes it better for when Kisame decides to stop playing around.

Konan's Character Theme: Star Ocean 3 Soundtrack - Divine Indignation. These two themes, in my opinion, perfectly work with Konan. This one starts off with a really bombastic choir for 40 seconds that's more fitting of Pain than Konan, but it then gives away to a beautiful harp with backing strings. It gradually becomes more joyous and hopeful as things go throughout, reflecting Konan's change in the manga. I don't know if she'll get all goody two shoes in the CYOA, but oh well. Song still works. Konan's Battle Theme: Guilty Gear X Soundtrack - Awe of She.Starts with a beautiful choir intro that fades away into nice piano and then guitars. The main riff sounds threatening somewhat, but the melodies that follow are very sweet to the ears. It fits Konan because it sounds pretty angelic and because it just does.
