The year as you know it is now 13 AC and the world as you know it is nothing more than darkness; darkness that you will, as far as you know, never get to see. Your father has always told you that "you will always be safe here in the den," but you aren't sure, still to this day, if you want to believe him...
As far as you know from the Forgotten Texts that your father has in his study is that two countries went to war. The result of that war was mass genocide and the destruction of several other countries. Many people fled into caves, tunnels, and other underground safe havens. Your father, Alpha, created this den to keep your mother and older brother safe.
"It's a new isotope entirely," your father starts, "something that you would think would kill us since it is so different from Carbon-14."
"There are no isotopes after Carbon-14, honey." Your mom seemingly corrects him. They were both scientists in the old world. You aren't sure who the smarter one was back in their time as head scientists of Russia, but...
"That's just it. The nuclear warheads must have created something new. It's the only reasonable explanation. It's in his blood."
Your mother glances over towards you with an unfamiliar look plastered on her face. You rub your arm to comfort yourself. You aren't sure whether this is good or bad, "Am I dying?" You ask.
"No, son, you aren't." Your father answers, "But this new carbon that is able to exist inside of your blood makes you... something similar to a mutant."
You laugh at the joke, but you soon realize that neither your mother or father are laughing. This is serious.
"This could be good, though." Your father continues, "You should be immune to the environment."
"What would happen if I weren't immune?" You ask, "Why can't you go out there?"
"Our bodies will slowly eat away at themselves as the new carbon isotope tries to overpower the carbon that our bodies are already comprised of. You won't have that same problem."
"This will be for the good of the world if you can go out to the surface." Your mom says with a smile on her face. Her comfort is very much needed.
"Okay." You answer. "I'll do it, but..."
A. I'm going to need something to defend myself
B. I'm going to need a weapon
C. Only if brother gets to come along
D. What will I be doing?
E. D and _____
