"Well...How about dessert I guess", you suggest casually, not wanting to push the envelope yet politely take up his request.
"Hah! This is feeling more and more like a date Chief, y'know that?"
"Jeez, just shut up you bum." You remark, this time jokingly.
"You know you're my dream girl Chief, hahahaha", this wasn't the first time he said something like this...(Check earlier in the CYOA btw), somehow it seemed a bit more serious this time, and honestly, it felt a bit confusing.
"Whatever", you pass it off.
"Yeah...I guess, so let's go right?"
Stopping at a sweets shop you sit at a small high-rise couple's table, sitting atop high stools, slowly consuming your shaved ice spoon tip by tip. "I always liked the taste of lime", you say, making idle chat.
"Yeah", Deneb mindlessly agrees, taking a bite of his own mixed fruit sherbert , covered in an assortment of toppings including fruits, grains, and candies. "I'm glad you decided to come out Chief."
"..." Giving him a slight smirk you agree, "Me too", lightly kicking his shin. "We never did..." No wait...there was one time...During monsoon season your first year as partners. It wasn't so different from this...
"We never what? Did anything like this? I guess right?"
"Uh...yeah" you lie, a bit unsure of your memory.
"Hey Chief... I...I, uh...."
"Yeah, go ahead..."
"You wanna go see a movie after this?" He asks rather bluntly and awkwardl.y
"Hmm? Like...A date? Hey", you wag your spoon at him, slinging a bit of shaved ice on the table, "Hahaha, are you for real right now?"
"Y-yeah! Of course!"
Sighing you smirk condescendingly at his feeble attempt, "You're not always this awkward around girls are you?" A rhetorical question, knowing Deneb was normally a bit of a lady's man.
"N-no...I'm serious chief."
"I see..."

"Alright" you sigh.
"Then it's a date!"
"Uhh, right." You say; for some reason you bring yourself to smile at Deneb's noisy glee.
At the theater you look around at the movie ads, trailers playing in 3D holographic windows. None of seemed to stand out very much, some action movies, comedies, romance, horror/monster. You weren't particularly the avid movie go-er, preferring work to just about everything else.
"So what do you think Chief? Wanna see anything in particular?"
"Eh...Not sure..."
1. Realistic fiction 2. Science fiction 3. Fantasy ------------------------- A. Romance B. Comedy C. Action D. Horror E. Detective/thriller F. Any mix of two G. Let Deneb choose

Blast Zone, hmm...How about that", you say, pointing at a poster, some sort of cyborg and a commando or soldier-type woman on the cover, a small trailer was playing underneath, showcasing explosions mainly.
"Oh! Yeah, I've been meaning to see this one."
"Really?"
"Yea, Keira Avis plays this assassin and ge- let's just go see it."
"Getting excited aren't you?"
"Well yeah, it's a huge blockbuster you know?"
"Sure...You don't sneak off duty to watch movies do you?" A loaded question.
"Uhh...hahaha, no way! I'm not a kid you know, I don't stupid stuff like that." By the way he rubs the back of his neck you can tell he just lied, it seems like he always did that when he lied. Maybe it was good trait, being a bad liar.
"Yea right, well come on."
Settling into your seat with a medium bag of popcorn you try to pull your legs back for Deneb to get to the seat across. "Ugh, why didn't you just sit to my right?" You complain as he bumps the popcorn, spilling a little.
"Sorry chief", quick to apologize, he plumps down into his seat and placing a cup of soda onto the place holder between the two of you.
"So, what is this about?"
"Shh, movie's starting, just watch", he advises, putting his finger up to his helmet. With the extra lights in the theater dimming or shutting off completely the huge holographic screen comes to life.
A bit of an interesting movie, just over 2 hours. The Assassin, codename "Eagle", a femme fatale going AWOL to expose the military leaders of her own faction. She found out they were working with corporations to fuel a war with another faction, and she gave it all up to stop it short before escalation. Interestingly enough, she only wanted to live a normal life, honestly, you could relate; seemed like things would be better if they were just normal...Like tonight... Anyway, the cyborg was partnered with her in the past as a sniper, but "died" during a mission only to be remade by the other faction. There was a bit of a romantic subplot, though it ended in tragedy.
"That was great!" Deneb shouts excitedly, walking out of the theater, "I think they'll make a sequel." Making a pass at a waste bin he throws out the mostly empty popcorn bag.
"Why do you..."
"Because...They didn't find his body."
"The cyborg guy?"
"Yea, Luce, she never found his body."
"Well...what do you expect? There's no way anyone could do that anyway." You were referring to how the character caught a starship... and proceeded to fight off the several hundred soldiers on board to let the main character advance. "Besides...life doesn't always have a happy ending..."
"Jeez chief, ah well...It's just a movie..."
"Yeah, it was pretty good though."
"Yea, glad we saw it."
"Yep.." You agree, patting your shorts before pocketing your hands. "It's late now, probably best to get home now."
"Oh yeah, I need to hurry and get home too, hopefully the storm won't come tonight."
A little worrisome, letting him sail out back to his house at sea. It was odd enough that he lived out so far anyway, not many people did...if any did at all.
"How do you even keep your little shack safe during storms?"
"Hey, it's not the best but it's pretty sturdy you know! Anyway, I'd better go soon."

"Why don't you just stay over for the night", you offer boldly.
"What? Really chief? You sure it's okay?"
"Yea, I don't see why not", you say genuinely unable to see the problem.
"Well alright! Sounds good to me!"
"Right..." You agree a bit suspicious of his joy. "Let's go then", this time you lead the way back home, having paid close attention the streets and shortcuts when you came to the market the first time.
"So chief...what'd you think of our first date."
"What? Oh, oh right."

"It was..." Putting some thought to you it, you consider the entirety of the night, not just the movie, which wasn't particularly special.
"Ah, nevermind, that was a weird question anyway", quick to back down as usual...Continuing down the streets you give it earnest consideration.
"It was nice," You say.
"Heh...."
"What?"
"Nothing."
You could imagine he was smiling under that helmet of his, just like you were smiling now, almost grinning.
"What're you so happy about chief?"
"Not much, tonight was just really fun."
"Heh, good to hear chief. We should do this more often."
"Sure", you quickly answer. It would indeed be nice to spend more nights like tonight. Then again...you said the same thing with Joseph...
Making idle chatter, you make your way home with Deneb after stopping by the gunshop to pick up your new weapon.
Walking into your apartment you palm the back of his helmet. "You have to come to work with me in the morning, alright?"
"Ah, ah, fine Chief."
"Good, we'll be up by 5." It was already well past midnight, only a few hours to sleep, probably wouldn't honestly.
"Well, good night chief", he greets, trying to lay himself out on the rather small couch, hanging his legs over the side.
"Yeah, night", you agree. Grabbing a blanket for your room you toss it to Deneb before shutting the door. Pulling off your shorts and socks you climb into your own bed, pulling the covers to your chest and curling up, tightly grabbing your pillows.
Maybe it was just a bit of anxiety, but you were well awake, feeling tireless. Mashing your face in the coolness of the rather flat pillow you mumble to yourself, letting out some fatigue. Tonight was really quite fun. Though it felt a little weird to pick up the pieces after Joseph so quickly...on the other hand, being around Deneb was so natural that the night didn't really seem so...intimate - not really like a date.
Nights like this were always enjoyable. Maybe you would have had more time for that if you hadn't become a military officer... What would that be like...What ifs...what if father hadn't been an military officer... Then you wouldn't have become an officer in the first place. But then you wouldn't have met any of your colleagues, especially Deneb. It was weird...different than being with just a companion too. Partners for well over 2 years... most days spent with him working a beat. Needless to say, the entire relationship was weird.
Hearing an unexpected racket outside you alertly climb out of bed. It was probably just Deneb. Taking a peak outside you could see someone, probably Deneb, about to walk out the door.
"Hey! Don't think about sneaking away!" Just as you make that order a thunderous roar sounds off outside. The scream of a monstrous storm. In just a few seconds you can hear the automatic beat of heavy rain. Though thanks to the windows, the noise quickly becomes dull.
"Uh. No, I'm going to be back for work. I just needed to get some stuff done before hand."
The clock said 4. A sleepless night but not a big deal.
A. Let him take care of it B. Insist on going with him C. Suggest going and getting breakfast afterward D. Suggest having breakfast before he leaves E. Demand and explanation first F. Free choice
