"I'm doing quite well, Lord Hokage!" you say with a smile. "And yourself?"
"Quite well, quite well. Yes, you've always been a cheerful one, child," he says with a laugh.
"Thanks. So...may I ask why you've called me here today?"
"Well...there are a few things that I would like to ask of you. Some important things, my dear."
"How important?"
"Very much so. As you know, I'm getting on years...coming back from retirement hasn't been terribly difficult, but I'm not what I once was. I've been thinking about a successor for a good while now, ever since the loss of the Fourth."
Right...you remembered the Fourth Hokage. Back during the Third Great Shinobi War, he was revered for his strategy and skill. He had died protecting the village from the Nine Tailed Demon Fox when you were only ten years old...you remembered that day vividly, somehow. All of the chaos that was in it.
"What might that have to do with me?" you ask, already half knowing the answer.
"My thoughts are that one day, you might become my successor, child."
"Me? I'm only a chuunin, though..."
He waves a hand dismissively. "Rank means little when it comes to decisions such as these. Your heart is in the right place, you have a wealth of knowledge, and you know what it takes to make this village, and this world of ours a better place."
"Are you sure that I would be ready for all of that, Lord Hokage?"
"I wouldn't have mentioned something like this if I didn't think you were prepared for it. Now...that is one thing I wanted to mention to you."
"There's more, I understand?"
"Yes. Barring you succeeding me, I would like you to at least move up a rank or two and spread a bit of your positive influence around in a leadership position."
You nod in response to that. The examination for Special Jounin was in about two months. The Jounin examination was about four months away. You could do one or both of those in addition to whatever else you were doing at the time.
"The other thing I wanted to ask of you is something rather delicate." He puts down his pipe and motions for you to stand at the glass windows beside him.
"There are children in the Leaf, children much like you used to be. Alone and fearful of the world around them."
"I see...and you want me to help them?"
"Two in particular. You know of them both already. The first is Naruto Uzumaki."
"Ah...he is..."
"Yes, but you aren't supposed to mention it to him...for his own sake."
"Okay..."
"He would be helped by your guidance in whatever you could possibly help him with. And a friend would be something that he could cherish for a long time to come. The cycle of hatred may have already started within his heart...I hope that is not the case, but if it is, I am certain that you can fill his heart with love, child."
"Wow...I'm honoured to hear you speak of me so highly, Lord Hokage."
"But of course. You are a special child, as you should know," he says with that smile of his.
"And the other child?"
"The last known member of the Uchiha Clan in Konoha."
Sasuke, you realize. "He seems to be fairly independent already, Lord Hokage."
"That may be a problem in and of itself. For Sasuke, I would want you to become a focusing factor in his life. He seeks power and vengeance for the massacre of his clan. While he is within his rights, I fear he may turn to darker methods if he feels bouts of frustration. If at all possible, please guide him down the right path."
"I understand."
"Aside from that, you could have the assignment of tutoring certain children who need help in different areas of their repertoire. I would have a list prepared for you. There is also an opportunity for you to command a genin squad this year, if you so wish. You would be tasked with giving them lessons, accompanying them on missions, evaluations, and the like. Iruka is also looking for an assistant at the Shinobi Academy, if you're interested."
"There's a lot of stuff, there..."
"Indeed, there is." The old man picks up his pipe again and puffs on it slowly. "But I'm sure that you're up to it, child."
"I'm happy to know that you believe in me so strongly," you reply with a blush.
He lets out a soft laugh and pats you gently on the shoulder. "You will know why in time, child. In time."
---
You decide to have a light lunch after bidding the Hokage farewell for the time being. He asked that you come to a decision on at least a few things very soon.
You enter a restaurant that's quite popular with shinobi these days, and order yourself a bowl of pork ramen. Your eyes scan the tables for a place to sit. You usually were...
---
a) Social
b) Reserved
c) Reclusive
1. Had quite a few friends.
2. Had a small circle of friends.
3. Had one or two people you talked to.
4. Had no real friends whatsoever.

Hokage's Requests
a) The Succession 1. "I'm ready to try." 2. "I'm not ready for something like this."
b) Rank Up! 1. "I'll try for Jounin." 2. "I'll try for Special Jounin." 3. "I'll try for...(other)." 4. "I'll stay a Chuunin for now."
c) The Children of Despair 1. "I'll try and help out Naruto." 2. "I'll try and help out Sasuke." 3. "I'll take on them both, you'll see." 4. "I don't think I'm ready for that."
d) Instructor 1. "I'd like to become an instructor." 2. "I'll decline that offer."
e) Academy Assistance 1. "I can help out Iruka on occasion." 2. "Sorry, I can't take on that right now."
---
a/n: Other suggestions are welcome. Oh, and you can specify who you'd like to be in your circle of friends (or enemies, idk) if you'd like to do so. If not, I have plans already.

So, you had made your decision. You would do your best in all things, so that you would eventually become the Godaime Hokage. If it all worked out, this village would be your responsibility...made your head spin thinking about it, but you were also filled with a sense of pride. Didn't want to get too proud, though. You still had a lot of work to do in order to reach that lofty goal of yours.
"Ah, I see that we cross paths once again."
Kurenai Yuuhi looks up from her book and gives you a smile. You cheerfully return her greeting.
"Yeah. It's nice to see you again. How have things been?"
"Not too bad, actually. Being a jounin isn't terribly difficult if you know what you're doing."
"Oh, I see."
"Are you planning to take the examinations coming up?"
"I am. I'll aim for the top, like always."
"Sounds just like you," she responds with an approving nod. "Just remember, it is a man's world that we live in nowadays..."
"Well, I for one think that it could just as easily be a woman's world, with a few adjustments."
"Hm...same attitude as usual, eh? I guess thinking like that, it makes the days go by a bit easier."
You finish up your ramen at that moment. "Well, that's the end of my lunch for now. I have things to take care of in the next while."
"Of course. I'll let you get to it. Come by for tea one of these days, okay?"
"I will, Kurenai. See you later!"
She waves back with a smile before returning to her novel.
---
"...and so, those are my intentions, Lord Hokage."
Hiruzen Sarutobi nods in approval, thick smoke billowing from his pipe.
"You have a lot to handle, but since it's you...I have no doubts that you will succeed in whatever your goals are."
"Of course!"
"Work hard, and also make sure to work intelligently as well. Be steadfast in your convictions, keep an open mind, and an open heart. In time, others that you have come in contact with will eventually do the same."
"Right."
"Young boys can also be a handful. Make sure you handle yourself properly."
"Okay. Um, do you know if Iruka is teaching right now?"
"Classes should be letting out for the day just around this time. They've just done the graduating tests at the Academy."
"Alright! I'll go see Iruka-sensei and get started right away!"
The old man chuckles and pats you gently on the shoulder, like he always did. "That's the spirit. Take care, my child. Remember how you are, for that will take you where you need to go."
Hm...that was good advice. You'd make sure to keep it in mind.
---
After leaving the Hokage's office once more, you head over to the Shinobi Academy and meet with Iruka Umino, an instructor you had known for a while, even before he got into his current position. He used to be a troublemaker, just like Naruto was now. However, he had changed a lot from that time...it couldn't have been the stint in the ANBU that changed him so. Something else...it was that something that Naruto lacked currently. A guiding figure?
Hm. That was interesting to know.
"Well, I'll be. Aren't you a little too old for school, miss?"
You giggle at his joke. "Aw, but I wanna learn to be a ninja, too!"
"Haha...so, what brings you here all of a sudden?" he asks.
"The Hokage mentioned you needing some help lately."
"Right, right. Whenever you have time, could you come on in and do some demonstrations? Maybe even help the kids with some exercises and all of that. You'd rotate in and out of classes, so you could spend time with the majority of the kids."
"Sounds fair."
"Good. I'll see you in a few days, then. Take care, now."
"I will. Thank you, Iruka-sensei," you say with a smile.
"Right!" he says with that goofy grin of his. He hadn't changed all that much from back then, if you thought about it. But he was more focused now than he ever was then. A reliable person, that Iruka.
You notice the children proudly showing off their headbands to their parents and guardians...and one boy sitting on a swing some distance away. His orange jumpsuit pretty much gave him away, and that dejected look in his eyes...he likely didn't pass the final test needed to become a genin.
You feel a bit of a tug at your heartstrings, looking at him like that. Although...you weren't officially assigned to him and Sasuke yet, not until a certain time. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to talk to him a little...at least, that was the logical thing to think.
---
a) Leave him be for now.
b) Go on and talk to the kid for a little bit, at least. 1. Aggressive/fired up 2. Calm/motherly 3. Impassive/nonchalant 4. Positive/cheerful 5. Other
---
Our MC needs a name...so, it'll be chosen as
a) Kyrie b) Blanche c) Yuki d) Hoshi/Hoshiko e) Lucia f) Other
---
a/n: I have an idea for a surname, but suggestions are welcome for that as well, or (a) nickname(s) if you'd like.

"Hey, there."
"..." He doesn't even raise an eyelash to look at you. Poor kid...
You kneel down to his level and give him a smile. "There's no need to be so depressed."
"...I failed again. At this rate, I'll never..." He trails off.
"Hey, hey. Don't be so down. You can always try again."
"No matter how many times I try, though...I can't do anything right! What difference does it make if I try again?" he cries out suddenly.
"As long as you keep trying, and never give up...as long as you have courage, you'll succeed. Just like I did."
"You?" His blue eyes focus on you intently. "You were like me?"
"I took a lot of classes, and I couldn't even focus my chakra correctly. I was destined to be a failure, according to everyone."
"Wow...I can focus my chakra, at least. You were worse than me."
Heh, kid was blunt...but he didn't mean it in a bad way. He just spoke his mind, something that he did often. From what you had seen of his 'work' on the Hokage Monument and other places, he was an expressive child, full of energy. He also had that secret of his...one that made everyone hate him, and left him with nobody to care for him. Besides Iruka and the Hokage, but they were both so busy...perhaps that's why he asked you. Though you wondered that...oh, of course. If you became a jounin, you'd likely be assigned a squad. Perhaps the old man had thought really far ahead on this one...
"Yeah, I guess you are better off than I was."
"Are you a genin now?"
"Nope, chuunin rank. And I'm going for jounin rank in a few months. And after that..." You raise your fist to the sky. "I'll become the next Hokage."
"Wah! No way!"
"Way!"
He leaps off of the swing enthusiastically. "That's totally my dream! I'm going to become Hokage!"
"Really? What for?"
"So that everyone...will finally acknowledge me! The whole village will know who I am!"
"Ara...that's a nice dream of yours. My reason is...for love."
"Love?" he asks, confused.
"Yes, love. Because I love this village with all of my heart, and the people in it. I love it so much that I'll do anything to see it do well. That's my reason for becoming Hokage one day soon."
"Love..." He scratches his head, trying to wrap his mind around the concept, seemingly. You smile and muss up his hair a little bit.
"When we meet again, I'll be sure to show you what it's all about, Naruto."
"Uh...okay, I guess. Hey, onee-san. What's your name?"
"Yuki. I'll be seeing you, okay?"
He puts his hands behind his head and gives you a bright grin. "Yup! For sure!"
Even though he had been alone for what had been most of his life, he still had that cheerful attitude about him. Was it just his youth, or something else? You'd find out soon enough, you think.
---
"Yosh! If it isn't one of my favorite people in the world, filled up with the explosive power of youth!"
As always, the energetic Maito Gai greeted you at your usual training area. Plenty of obstacles and assorted objects to destroy, along with a nice, shady spot to cool down in when the sun got to be too much. Gai usually trained here with his three students, Rock Lee, Tenten, and Neji Hyuuga, the genius of the Hyuuga Clan.
You never really liked those ones, the Hyuuga. Always stuck up and arrogant...probably didn't help that you made a fool of their current clan head all that time ago, though.
Neji gives you a dismissive look, and you simply smile back at him. He grunts and turns away. Attitude, much?
"Don't mind Neji, he's always like that," Tenten says to you. "Yuki-onee, you don't mind if I watch you train, do you?"
"Why don't you just join in with me? Everyone can!"
"Yes! I'm fired up to see Yuki-hime again! The power of youth is awesome within her!" Lee exclaims.
"Hahaha! Yes, that is right, Lee! Make sure to learn from this young woman. She is on the path to greatness, I can feel it!" Gai yells in his usual hotblooded manner.
"Right!" Lee...takes out a notepad and starts writing. Well, he was eager.
"I want to work on my ability a little bit today," you say.
"Okay! You could spar with any one of us, if you'd like. Just go easy on the kids if you choose one of them, haha!" Gai says.
"Right, I'll make sure." You give Neji a smirk as he looks back at you. Suddenly, his interest is piqued...hm. Maybe you could make use of that for training purposes.

Style Select - at current, only one style can be selected. Later on, multiple styles can be learned and rotated between. Eventually, multiple styles can be used in a single battle.
>> Basic Styles (normal learning curves)
> Trickster Style - focus on speed, positioning, and evasion techniques
> Swordmaster Style - focus on swordplay, melee, and power techniques
> Gunslinger Style - focus on ninjutsu, stamina, and seal speed
> Royal Guard Style - focus on defense, countering, and power techniques
>> Advanced Styles (steep learning curves)
Doppelganger Style - focus on clone arts, specifically Kage Bunshin; tactics and assault technique. Leaves defense lacking.
Quicksilver Style - allows for the brief slowing of time, though it can drain energy rapidly and leaves the rest of your technique to be desired at times. Isn't quite up to snuff as of yet...
Dark Slayer - heavy focus on iaijutsu and sword technique. The other types of technique in your arsenal currently suffer for this unhealthy focus.

"Weapon Select for Swordmaster Style and Dark Slayer Style"
- if it is chosen, Swordmaster Style allows for the use of different kinds of blades and/or melee weapons. Dark Slayer has one blade that you stay with permanently.
1. The lethal, two handed broadsword that you wield with skill. Coded 'Rebellion'.
2. A unique, customizable sword with an internal engine and the ability to take each attack up in power with the innovative Exceed System. Coded 'Red Queen'. - The Exceed System can be changed to match the MCs element or elements with its charge. (ex. default Exceed power is Katon, Exceed S = Suiton, Exceed R = Raiton, etc.)
Other weapons will be available as the story progresses.
---
You can also select these weapons with the other styles, but they won't have the extra techniques afforded by Swordmaster Style.
---
Dark Slayer has one blade, a legendary katana said to be able to cut through any material with a single stroke. Coded as 'Yamato'.

Everyone who's played DMC knows that Royal Guard is the best style because of Just Guarding. However, it lacks the massive cool factor that Swordmaster and Gunslinger have. Ahem. Going too off topic here. Hmm... I'm going to go with Gunslinger. Especially if you can get us Gunstinger. After thinking about it, while Gunslinger is an amazing style in DMC... it has a slow start that I'm sure Forte will hit us with. Changing to Swordsmaster, as long as we get Gunslinger rather early on because it's just that good. Weaponwise, I'm voting for the Rebellion. For one simple reason: Forte said the RQ has a more Neroesque style, while the Rebellion has a more Dantesque one. Dante has a more awesome style than Nero. Not to mention six and a half time as stylish, which the Exceed system doesn't make up for. Exceed for current power, or Rebellion for awesome style?
